Electrical help on bench sander
I've been looking for a bench sander that isn't junk but isn't terribly expensive either. Craigslist has some older USA made stuff, but nothing really compact that can be used on the rotating bench I'm thinking of building. Most <$150 seem to be rebadged versions of the same one, with Wen being the...- Bottom

Matching an Existing Stain Color
Any tips/hints, besides try and try again? :B
I've got a Zaph ZDT 3.5 center channel, its almost complete but I'm having a hard time getting the stain to match the cabinet my T.V. sits on.
The T.V. cabinet is white ash, and the stain color is difficult to describe - it...- Bottom

Crossover layout and baffle cutout questions
So I got all my parts for the Swope Main MTMs I'll be building soon and I have some general questions about XO layout and building before I begin.
1.) This XO uses two polypropylene caps and one non-polarized electrolytic cap. The two Dayton polys aren't marked +/- anywhere so I'm assuming...- Bottom

Threaded insert-best practice?
I'm building some mini statements, and due to my construction, I dont have good access to the inside of the baffle. I'm thinking that for the speaker mounting, I'm going to use threaded inserts rather than any kind of T-nut/hurricane nut, etc. I'm taking feedback on both:
1. Anyone...- Bottom

Cabinet constructions tip, techniques, how-tos, and how-to-nots
Well, I've realized that building a square box is harder than it appears to be. I learned a lot building my subs the past couple weeks and I've realized that power tools can't overcome user ignorance and can't compensate for lack of experience even if you have a good plan of attack. I wanted to start...- Bottom

Dealing with thick veneer
I have this wonderful birds eye maple veneer that I bought for my Trilliums. The only problem with it is that it is very thick (perhaps 1/32 inch). It has two or, most likely, three layers of wood backing. This results in a rather conspicuous line at the corners (OK, go ahead, call me obsessive). Here's...- Bottom

New veneer?
Ok as most of you know I've been somewhat unhappy with how my Bamboo veneer turned out. So the last few days I've been really thinking about finishing my speakers (stain and what not) but I really don't want to finish the bamboo. So I've kind of been looking into some veneers again. I found some Birdseye...- Bottom

How to make a grown man cry .....
The answer .... after spending a rather long time building a rather good sounding and nice looking pair of speakers ....
You discover the lamination's on your cabinets are coming apart, right at the glue joints. I used Titebond III, which I had heard good things about, and...- Bottom

Cabinet builders: Which circle cutting jig?
Anyway...
I was going to pick up the Jasper jig combo from parts express until I noticed their other jig offering here.
Has anyone used both? Which ones work better? Is there any other solution that makes PRECISE circles for cutouts and countersinking drivers in baffles?...- Bottom

Show us your speaker finishes
Chuck (Impala454) made a suggestion to build a thread based on peoples' finishes. So, one could look at pics and make some educated judgment on possible finishes. Lets post some pics, and try to keep the discussion down as none of us want to hunt through 6 pages of chit chat for that one awesome pic...- Bottom

Circular saw recommendations (for cutting facets)?
I’ll be cutting facets into the front baffle of my ongoing project. After reading and thinking about it, the circular saw method, as shown below from jquin, might be the best way to go. So I need to get a circular saw. Any favorite models out there?
By searching here I didn’t find too...Last edited by theSven; 23 July 2023, 22:21 Sunday. Reason: Remove broken image links and update htguide url- Bottom

Low quality MDF
I'm building a 5.1 set up for a friends mom and the baffles are chamfered all the way around and will be painted. The problem is, I got some crappy MDF from Home Depot and the end grain is almost fuzzy feeling after routing the chamfers. I've put a coat of sanding sealer and a coat of varnish on them...- Bottom
