    denon 2200 sub output problems/questions

i recently purchased a denon 2200 dvd player and i'm having some issues with signals to my sub. only when using 5.1 direct from denon to reciever. i have to turn bass enhancer on in the audio set up in order to get any signals to my sub. as i understand it the bass enhancer is for sending signals to the sub when playing two chanel audio signals. i have to have bass enhancer on whether playing two channel or multi channel sacd in order to get any signal. when i turn the 'filter' setting to off which is recomended for dts play back and suposedly increases the subwoofer volume by 15 db when listening to sacd i get nothing unless i have the bass enhancer set to on. is there something that i don't understand about the audio set up or is something wrong?
    thanks for your help.

SACD and DVD-A have subwoofer levels approx 10 db below regular DVD's. So what you want to do is use the sub adjustment in the 2200's setup that increases the sub level by +10db. Leave the Filter function as it came out of the box and do not use the bass enhancer.

The +10 db change will only affect the analog outputs. What I recommend (and what I do with my 2200) is to use the 5.1 analog outputs for SACD and DVD-A and use the digital output for eveything else. This will make a big improvement in your sound...

This could be a couple other things as well....

One- Have you made sure that the sub is listed as "ON" in the DVD player? If it is set to off it will re-direct the bass to the mains. Then (I assume) you're setting your receiver to pull bass from the main channels and re-direct it to your sub with the "bass enhancer" option.

Two- Not all SACDS and DVD-A's have information recorded in the LFE channel. As such, depending on your discs, there might not be any info there to send to the sub.
