    Heretical thought?

Back in the late 70s I lived with a Crown DC300A amp powering four Advent speakers stacked in pairs in what can best be described as a "diappolito" configuration (the top speaker was inverted). It actually sounded pretty good

Now I have a mid-power HT system, which I primarily use for two-channel music played without any "processing" (it stays two channel). It sounds superb at low volumes. It sounds compressed at higher volumes.

After looking through EBAY today an odd thought hit me... would it be terribly wrong to add in a newer generation Crown power amplifier to help the speakers come alive (a very inexpensive, immediate gratification, temporary fix)?

I know fan noise will be mentioned, but it's not actually a problem because the listening room is over the cellar and the amp can be ceiling mounted in the cellar. Anyone have actual experience with the current Crown line used in this manner?

Their top models aren't too bad but the lower lines wouldn't be my first choice for music reproduction.

      Hi Andrew

Actually, I would have thought their low end D models would be ideal for music reproduction, if it weren't for the fact that I wouldn't be gaining anything I don't already have (medium wattage, high volt delivery at amazingly low THD). I was hoping someone had hands on with the bigger, but not BIG Crown rigs.

        Crown D-150A Series II Amp
        by rdrowley
I was recently given a Crown D-150A Series II Amp. They are supposed to run ~95W into 8 Ohms. I cleaned it up a bit and plugged it in to run my front speakers. It runs super clean and it seemed like the music was more dynamic. It also seemed to open up the sounds on HT work a little bit.

Behringer, Carvin, or Crown XTi amp?
        by DennisP
        Hi everybody,

I'm zoned in on the enclosure size for the 2X15" sub I'll be building, and I'm looking at amp options. The drivers will be SS-RPL15 D2, so I'm looking at either the Behringer EP1500, the Carvin DCM2500, or the Crown XTi2000. Any amp gurus have any opinions on these...

Best match to a Crown MA2402
        by Brandon B
OK, since 2 similar posts have gone completely ignored at HTF and AVS for 2 days even after bumping, I'm hoping someone here has at least one suggestion.

I'm building 3 bass modules for my front 3 speakers and have a Crown Macrotech 2402 to power the left and right (about 600 watts per...

Input from all welcome, but curious about JonM/ThomasW's opinion on this.

Still working on my speakers sloooooooooowly, but I have accumulated an amp collection. My question is: I have a Crown macrotech 2402 to drive my L & R woofers (Stryke Lmabda SB10's in a sealed 3ft box, XOed...

        Crown XLS-1500
        by slovell
Anyone using this amp? I ordered one yesterday just to try it with my mains (Klipsch KLF-20's). I thought it might be interesting to play around with. I'll be using it with a Marantz AV-7005 prepro.
        Thanks, Sam
