    Crown XLS-1500

Anyone using this amp? I ordered one yesterday just to try it with my mains (Klipsch KLF-20's). I thought it might be interesting to play around with. I'll be using it with a Marantz AV-7005 prepro.
    Thanks, Sam

Crown is typically used in pro audio applications, and for powering subs where raw power is more important than critical resolution & detail.

still, you may find it serves its function just fine in your system.
there is no auguring the value when considering the watt/$ ratio.

but there is more to high quality audio reproduction than simply how loud a system is capable of playing.

I couldn't agree more. After comparing it to my Adcom 5500 with music last night, the differences weren't subtle. the Crown makes a lot of power but the inner detail, vocals, and soundstage sound compressed and recessed in the mix. Great amp for it's price but, IMHO, you get what you pay for. I'm returning it.

I've got tinnitus in both ears and I still heard the differences. Does that make me an audio super snob? 8)

OTOH, there's that Emotiva XPA-7 99 lb. beast lurking about. I could sell both Adcoms, my Dynaco 70 clone, and I'd just about have enough to by that monster and be done with it. Or I could get the 5500 modded by Musical Concepts and the 7000 serviced and be done with it. Or I could raid my 401K and blah, blah, yadda, yadda. Do I still get to be in the snob club?

Don't know for sure, but if you're wondering how many different ways you can spend money to increase your audio quality, that certainly makes you a fellow fanatic. :welcome:

I'd better stay away from the 401K, I'm 2.5 years from retirement. I'm good with fanatic and thanks for the welcome.
