Hum cause by plugging cable line into Monster HTS 5000

I was worried about potential damage caused by spikes in the cable TV line so I plugged into the in(made sure it isn't the out) on my HTS 5000. The hum on my subwoofer significantly increases when I do this.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Try plugging the sub into its own outlet with a simple surge protector. It isn't really necessary to have a sub go through a conditioner because it really doesn't produce an audible improvement.

Thanks I did that - no difference. I bought a cheap CALRAD RF Inline filter for my cable line and it seems to have improved it significantly.

Cable lines are notorious for inducing hum in a system. The cable company installers in many cases don't bother to connect to the house ground - they just set up a second ground - instant hum. D'oh. :nonod:

Sounds like the Monster protection is worthless ?

I purchased a Behringer EP1500 amp a couple months ago to run my 15" Avalanche sub but I haven't actually played it since my sub wasn't done yet. I had planned on changing out the fan with a quieter one but it turns out it had a different connector than the one I had bought. Refer to this thre...

Ground Loop Hum and the RSP-1066
            by Daymond
Just got a 1066 and I am having a problem with what I think is Ground Loop Hum. I have the unit hooked up to a Monster PowerCenter HTS-3500MkII which is plugged in to a grounded outlet with all of my other components. I then disconnected the other components leaving only this processor plugged in along...

SPA1000 and DTA-2.1BT2 hum - speaker out to rca in
            by Frankqa
            Hello,
I have a DTA-2.1BT2 and I wanted a little more power for the sub. I had an older SPA1000 laying around and figured why not.
The only problem is that I get a nasty hum from the sub when the DTA-2.1BT2 is turned off. I used a bare speaker wire to male RCA converter that I found on Amazon....
