    diference between rotel RSP 1068-1098?Help!

    Hi,
I just want to buy a processor RSP 1068 and I wish to known witch is the diference between 1068-1098.I notice some guys on videogon/audiogon sell 1098 around $2000,so is $ 200 more then1068 brand new,or $ 600 for used.I have an Rotel RMB 1075 and Denon avr 3803 right now and I used Denon like a preamp/pro.So I want to known if really the 1098 worth the money.Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks,

There are other differences between the two other then just the TFT screen but from what several members have reported the difference in sound isn't huge so you'll need to listen to both on the same system to really see if the differences are worth the extra cost to you. I will say that I know several people that weren't sure about their 1098 purchases but so far all of them are deeply in love with it now

      Dixon,

Just to add to what Andrew has posted. The RSP-1098 has the same basic DSP chip and software as the RSP-1068, however there are many differences other than the TFT, such as:
      • Three separate torriodal transformers and power suppliers, one for Analogue Adion, one for Digital Audio and one for Video.
      • Improved Op Am circutry for the front channels
      • Higher quality components (e.g. capacitors and A/D etc in a number of key places)

All that asside - with the right source and system, it sounds better - but not the 80% better matching the 80% price. So listen and let your ears be the judge... You will know what works for you. Those that have done so on this forum have then been very happy with their choice of RSP-1098 or RSP-1068.

Thanks,Andrew for your input.I'm not sure right now if I will buy RSP 1068 or 1098,anyway I thing is worth 1098 for extra $200, even if is used.Ether way I think I can't go wrong.
Can anybody suggest some good speakers to mach Rotel amp?([/U]in special for stereo, main speaker)
        My system right now is:
        rotel RMB 1075,denon avr 3803,denon dcd ar 1650,denon dvd 2900,yamaha speaker(NS 555 main)yamaha NS 444 center and yamaha 333 four surround,velodyne 1200 spl II sub.
Yamaha is ok,sound good and is worth the money, but I think I can find a better one.Can you suggest some brands?

For $200 I'd say its a no brainer get the 1098:T

Dixon where are you located and what's your budget?

Generally Paradigm, Energy, B&W, Misson, Martin Logan, Magnepan, PSB, Polk, Onix Rockets and a variety of other brands all make very nice speakers. The typical rule of thumb with speakers is that if the company also makes electronics (denon, Yamaha, Sony etc) there speakers tend not to be that good (there are exceptions but not normally)

I live in Seattle for almost 4 years.I was born in Roumania.
            I apologies for my english.
My budget for speaker will be about $ 3000.My priority will be first to aquire a processor and second the speakers after I will come back from vacation
If would like to know your opinion about NS 555 yamaha speakers(give them a try).I bought them from "Best BUY",I am not sure they have also stores in Canada.

Dixon those speakers look ok but really $249 isn't a lot to pay for tower speakers so I'd guess they didn't use quality components to build them...but without hearing them I don't want to say to much bad about them Still I think its pretty fair to say with a $3K budget you're going to looking at speakers in a whole other league from what you have now. My suggestion is to spend some time looking and listening to as many brands as you can with CD's that you're familar with and enjoy listening too.

PS your english is great I'd never have guessed your native language wasn't english and we do have Best Buy up here (though I don't buy hi-fi gear there!)

I'd take a look at some Definitive Technology speakers. They'd be awesome in your setup and will fit your budget nicely.

                Here's an initial suggestion:

BP7006 for fronts (incredible speakers with built-in power sub) - $600 each
CLR 2300 for center (awesome with built-in power sub) - $600
BPX for surrounds (very nice surround speaker) - $450 each

This brings you to $2,700 MSRP. You'll be blown away. I have a very similar setup in my 2nd HT and it is awesome. If you want an external sub, and I'd suggest doing so, you could get the SuperCube II for $900. This would bring your total spend to $3,600 full MSRP but you might find a dealer to knock 10-20% off. If so, you'd be right around your budget.

Magnolia Audio & Video in Seattle carries these speakers. If nothing else before you buy anything, go take a listen (but have your checkbook handy as I know you won't leave the store without buying them.

Ask more questions if need be.

                Good luck....

                    Hey Jim,

I'm from Seattle as well and since you are buying Rotel gear, I am assuming you are going to Definitive Audio in Seattle since they are the only dealer.

If you do have a budget of around $3k, I would suggest b&w speakers. You can listen to them at definitive with your rotel gear, and if it matters, the rotel website has b&w speakers pictured with their rotel gear. I found them to be a great match with my 804's.

                    good luck.

                    Sam

btw, everyone here would agree you have to hear for yourself if you like the combo/sound of the gear you have, so I think it is pretty important either to demo at home or listen to the combined gear in the store (although sound may differ once in your home).

                      Sam:

Actually it is Dixon that lives in Seattle and is looking for advice on speakers with a $3,000 budget and whether he should spend a couple of hundred dollars more for a used 1098 vs. a new 1068. I'd agree though that B&W makes some darn good speakers but more importantly, it is one's ears that tell the truth as to what is most satisfying.

While personally, my ears don't enjoy the B&W's as some others do (except for the ASW-600 that I am using as a secondary sub), Dixon should take a listen to them particularly at the dealer you are referencing as they have a Rotel lineup to match with them. By the way, I am not buying Rotel either though I currently own the RSP-1098. That being said though, I'm sure you'd agree with me that getting a complete speaker system for $3,000 with B&W will be challenging; not impossible but very challenging just the same. Great speakers but kind of pricey. He'd have to look at the '600' series to fit into this budget because once he steps into the 'CM' series and beyond (700 & 800 --- you'd know this as your 804's alone are roughly $3,000!), it will be very tough to squeeze all this in.

Thanks for thinking of me though and giving Dixon another option....

There's lot's of great speaker options that mate well with Rotel, all different and the only way to tell if you like them is to go listen. This thread is getting a bit off-topic (and non-Rotel related  ) though so Dixon, if you'd like to some more advice on speaker lines I'd suggest first, browing through the Home Theatre section as there have been numerous, similar threads that would be quite helpful :T Second, if you have any other questions etc, start a new thread on speakers in the HT area You'll likely get more/better responses.

Here's a couple threads with similar questions and price ranges:

In my experience, there is an improvement in audio in the 1098 as compared to the 1068. I've owned both. This unit uses relays instead of IC’s for switching which gives a cleaner circuit path. The 1098 also has three separate power transformers inside, one is a AC filter and then one is designated for the analog portion of the unit and the other is designated for the digital portion. The 1098 uses 4 24/192 CS43122 DACs where the RSP-1068 uses 4 24/192 AK4395VF DACs. Other than that the functionality of the two units are extremely similar (one could argue the same.)

For $200 I'd say its worth it.

                              Hope this helps.

I do, however, get a proper 4:3 ratio from my monitor when I take the composite signal that is feeding the TFT and use it to feed the monitor. Is this something lacking in...
