Rsp 1069 What am I missing here?

When I have my cd player hooked up via digital coax or optical the display says pcm 2 channel on the 1069.Only when using analog connects do I get stereo on the display(Or Bypass). Can someone explain this to me.I thought pcm meant the decoding was done in the player.By getting pcm 2 channel am I bypassing the the 1069 DACs?Thanks.

PCM is a digital signal. Decoding is converting digital to analog. So for the player to do the decoding you would have to use the analog outputs. Any digital output and the 1069 will do the decoding.

PCM 2ch is digital stereo. Stereo via analog digitizes the signal and runs it through the bass management system. Bypass via analog doesn't do anything to the analog signal and routes it only through the volume control.

Thanks Kevin for clearing that up for me.I was using the analog outs on my cd player and also bypass but it sounded just a tad too bright so decided to try the digital outputs and it toned it down just to where it is really smooth.

Difference between analog audio vs. digital
        by LuckyMF
What's the difference between analog audio using twin rca cables vs. an fiber optic cable other than the decoding? Does it effect the signal strength from DVD to receiver? If I were to listen in stereo mode or pro logic on the digital line, would it sound any different than the rca lines?

        "Digital" TVs, deciphering the terms.
        by Dean McManis
"Digital" is a buzzword today, and it is regularly abused. Most "digital" cable is NOT transferring high definition digital signals, but they are transferring the 480i NTSC analog signals into digital format, so that they can compress them, to get more channels across the line. So...

        Hi,

I've been running a 1056 with a 7.1 speaker setup for a couple of years now, and started watching Blu-Ray movies from a PS3 80GB model last year. The PS3 is connected to the 1056 with digital coax and component.

Since my current setup is limited to 5.1 and 6.1, both...

No true analog bypass on RSP-1066???
        by Martinf
Prior to committing to a multi-channel pre-amp (RSP-1066), I’ve been studying the specifications and user manuals for both the Rotel RSP-1066 and very new RSP-1098.

        1. Some observations from RSP-1098 manual:-

        (a) On page 13 in the RSP-1098 manual it has an explicit...
