Hi everyone,
I'm new to Rotel, and to the world of separates in general. After a long time of compromising quality for price in the world of receivers, I got the bug and decided to go separates. I did hours scouring the internet for specs and reviews on the various pre/pros and power amps within my budget (wanted to spend around $3K), I narrowed my search to the NAD T175 and Rotel RSP-1069 for the Pre/pro, and preferably an 5.1 channel amp of the same brand to accompany. Well, budgets were made to be broken, and after going to about 6 audio shops in town and being less than impressed with the selection of multichannel separates, stumbled upon a shop that was having a sale too good to miss out on.
So, I walked out of that store with an RSP-1098, RMB-1075 and RQ970.
Well, I just have to say WOW. This was an upgrade from a Denon AVR3802, which I thought was good, but the difference is much greater than I anticipated. Put it this way, I don't jump into a forum days after I buy something unless I am REALLY excited about it.
The RSP-1098 is just an amazing piece of equipment from a build quality and features standpoint (although I will need to do the HDMI upgrade one of these days), and the RMB-1075 just packs so much smooth power. The imaging of music and movies has improved dramatically, and what I love most: listening at higher volumes is no longer fatiguing on the ears. The Denon tends to get quite bright at higher listening levels. And I just can't get over how cool the TFT display on this thing is! Even the included remote is great, doesn't make me miss the Denon's EL remote I bought. In fact, I don't think I will miss a single thing about the Denon.
On the vinyl side, which accounts for about 95% of my music listening, the difference in sound is astounding, especially in the vocals. I'm running a nice table: Music Hall MMF9, which sounds great no matter what, with the Music Hall Maestro (aka Goldring EroicaHX I believe). I kinda wish I had tried the RQ970 with the Denon before I put everything together so i could have gauged which component has more influence, but the end result is beyond pleasing to my ears.
Anyway, to end my rambling, everything is hooked up perfectly, software is upgraded to 2.2.3, and I'm looking forward to years of enjoyment.
