Hey guys, what's the best way to connect a HDDVD player to the 1068 for the new lossless audio formats. I can use the analog out from the HDDVD to the analog inputs, but will the bass management settings in the 1068 apply (what about bass management settings in the player itself)? I guess I can always use the optical cable with SDDVD, but then I'm downgrading the signal back to DD, right?

You are correct that you should connect the HD DVD player by the analog outputs and set the 1068 to bypass. You can go into the settings of the 1068 and bump of the sub settings if you want.
Which HD DVD player do you have?- Bottom

Right now, I am trying to figure out if I want to replace the Rotel for someting with HDMI 1.3a, etc. similar to the Integra DTC 9.8 thread here. If I don't I will wait for the upcoming Panny BD-50 since it can PCM the new formats via analog outs. If I do replace the Rotel, then the BD-30 seems a better choice with bitstream options.Originally posted by VancouverYou are correct that you should connect the HD DVD player by the analog outputs and set the 1068 to bypass. If I set the 1068 to bypass, then I am basically depending on the player for any bass management, correct? But I can control LFE still at the Rotel??- Bottom

And, unfortunately, there are many (any?) players that let you do that right now. My Sony BDP-S1 lets me set the speaker size (crossed over at 100Hz), but that's it. However, I still find the sound that much better than using the 'old' codecs via digital input to the RSP-1068. I'm hoping the new Denon or Marantz players provide full bass management; of so, there will be no need to upgrade my RSP-1068.Brad- Bottom

Thanks for all the responses on this. I'm trying to figure out the best option at this point. From the manual, it looks like I can use the Rotel for the bass management as long as I am willing to convert the analog inputs to digital signals. Does this then degrade the signal to the point it would be better just to use the normal optical input?Originally posted by shadow 8You can vary the bass level up or down for the analog input in the Rotel menu but thats it. All other management, speaker delay, etc must be done in the player.
The other option converts the analog inputs
to digital signals, passing them through the
digital processors in the RSP-1068. This option
allows all of the features to be active including
bass management settings, crossovers,
subwoofer outputs, contour settings, etc.- Bottom

Hi there.
I own a Rotel 1068 processor and currently auditioning a Toshiba A35 HD DVD player. I have the Toshiba connected to the Rotel multi-channel inputs and the Toshiba is processing the lossless and Dolby Digital + Codecs internally.
I'm comparing this player to my XBOX 360 HD player that is connect via digital toslink to the Rotel and outputting DTS at 1.5MB/sec.
With the exact same movie playing (KING KONG HD DVD) with Dolby Digital + soundtrack, cued at the same time, I don't hear much of a difference between Rotel's DTS processing and the Toshiba's DD +. I have the output levels matched for each channel using an Audio Control analyzer. Personally, I don't know what the big deal is regarding these new codecs. Perhaps its the movie or the fact that Rotel's chipset is perhaps superior to Toshiba's.
Or, it could always be my hearing is getting old. It is nothing like comparing a CD with an mp3 or AAC file.- Bottom

That's only for the regular analog inputs, not the multi-channel analog inputs. For the multi-channel, the only options you have are LFE volume and whether you want a copy of anything under 100hz on the main channels sent to the LFE channel as well.Originally posted by Tim_DThanks for all the responses on this. I wouldn't expect to hear much difference between a full bit-rate DTS signal and a DD+ signal. Full rate DTS is over twice as much signal as a regular DD signal and both DD+ and DTS are compressed formats.
You need to compare normal DTS and DD to a loss-less DD-HD track.

OK. I think this makes sense. My options with the Rotel are use the standard optical cable like with SD DVD or (if poss) use the multi analog inputs with a decent HDVD player that has adequate bass management. However, from Blindamood's post these may be few and far between (at least the ones out now).Originally posted by Kevin DThat's only for the regular analog inputs, not the multi-channel analog inputs. That would make sense. Since there are not a lot of DD-HD tracks on discs that I want, you've help make my decision much easier. Think I'll stick with the XBOX drive for now until the format's future is clearer. Thanks!

Are there any players out currently which do a good job at bass management? Or are most folks waiting on the new Denon/Marantz/Other players? I saw some info on a new Panasonic player (BD50) coming out this spring, but have not looked into it yet.Originally posted by BlindamoodAnd, unfortunately, there are many (any?) players that let you do that right now. by PSUfanAlright, this topic seems to be discussed too often but the upgrade bug is upon me.....I have the pioneer elite 23fd blu-ray connected to my 1068 via analog. In this situation the pioneer handles all the decoding and my 1068 is set to multi-input making it a large volume knob. The sound is excellent...-

Hi guys, after reading the technical section notes under FAQ on the rotel site, it states the rsp 1066 in stereo mode is analog apart from the subwoofer signal.
My question is, is the 1068 also analog in stereo mode ?
The reason I'm thinking it may be different to the...-

by weaselHi. Don't come here often, but I know where the expertise is. I'm in the process of moving and obviously had to disconnect my system. My question is this: Does the RSP-1068 lose it's settings and configurations when removed from AC power for a period of time? I don't know how long it'll be before I'm...-
