    RSP 1068 Component Video Drop-Out

I purchased a second hand 1068 about a year ago when I upgraded my sound system. It's been running well with my old SD TV system switching S-Video. I just got a Sharp 42D64U HDTV and connected it using Component Video. Component cable from the cable box to the Rotel and another compontent cable from the Rotel to the TV. Connection is good, but I'm getting occasional video drop-outs lasting one or two seconds. Screen goes black and then the video comes back. When I connect the TV directly to the cable box via component cable, the problem disappears.

Anyone hear of a similar problem? I'm hoping for an easy fix, but not really expecting one. Any idea how much it would cost to fix?

    Thanks,

    Radu

    Never mind.
Just called Rotel Service and they had me turn on Progressive Scan for the video inputs (in the Other menu) and that appears to have fixed the problem.

11/15 Update: Well, as you can see from my new post below, it turns out this post was a bit premature. High Def signal from my cable box now displays without drop-out on the HDTV monitor, but when I select an SD channel I continue to get drop-outs, particularly when the program has a lot of rapid motion.

Nothing to do with balanced design concept!

As the first reply said you need to turn on prog scan in the input menu page for the comp input/s you are using.

By chance does your cable TV box have settings that control how SD video is output? For example, my Motorola box has settings to configure whether SD video is output as 480i or 480p, which might impact how the 1068 behaves.

Also, you might try updating the 1068 firmware to the new version just released this month. Might not make a dif, but it can't hurt.

I have the SA8300HD Cable box and I can configure the output format using a configuration screen. The format applies to all channels, whether HD or SD. The currently selected format is 1080i. According to Rotel Service, that should work. They suggest that the next step is to send it in. I'll pursue it tomorrow. I purchased this unit used and it would be interesting how much it would cost. I'm not sure it's worth puting a lot of money into the video switching as my TV can switch many sources, but it's a pain to have to switch both the TV and Rotel when swtching from Cable to DVD. On the other hand, I should probably have it fixed in case I ever want to upgrade and sell the Rotel.

Here's an update. Rotel gave me an RMA and, as my office is only a short drive from their headquarters in Mass, told me I can just drop it off. I'm going to hold off on having this done until early December when I'm off to Aruba for a week's vacation. I'll drop it off the week before I leave and hopefully it will be done when I return.

I removed all video switching duties of the rsp1068 as I also had video dropout problems. It would work when it felt like it.

My 1068 had another problem where it didn't turn on anymore. I called rotel and they fixed it in less then a week turn around time. I was shocked to come home and see it sitting in my livingroom.

But the video problem still remains. What happens is I had DVD, XBOX360 and HD cable all in on the 1068. Then I had a monitor out to tv. This was when I was not using HDMI. Everything was set to progressive scan and it worked fine... when it wanted 2. What I had to do is change the input to lets say input 2(DVD) and then I had to go back to input 1(cable) to see the video from the cablebox. This also happened on all component sources. I had to switch inputs off then back to get video. This got really old. I configured it every way, changed the output of my DVD player to 480i and 480p and it did the same thing no matter which setting I used in the dvd or Rotel. Same goes for cable and xbox360.

My rsp1068 is on borrowed time. I was going to upgrade to the 1069 but 1.1 and problems don't work for me. I have all HDMI sources now and would love nothing more then to use Rotel to switch them for audio and video. I will wait to see what replaces the 1098 or get something else.

Shame I like Rotel alot for everything else but any kind of video switching. I have a old Transparent S-video cable for monitor out for onscreen and that works fine...LOL

                    Good News: Rotel Fixed It!

Decided I didn't want to wait and dropped it off early last week. Just picked it up from Rotel. They replaced the terminal board. While they were at it, they also upgraded the power relays and updated the firmware. Plugged it in and I'm now switching my HD cable box through the Rotel to the HDTV. Works like a charm.

Cost identified as $168, but they treated it as a warranty repair even though I purchased it used off ebay. Great Company!

Another example of them taking care of their product regardless of the situation. Generally if you don't go in demanding a free repair and it's an obvious failure on their part, they will do what they can.

                        Video drop out from DVD

Currently I'm running the 1068 and the RDV-1092 DVD player and have experienced video drop out when viewing a movie. Everything else is fine such as viewing cable. Is this a firmware issue that i need to make a call to Rotel? The connections are fine and no cable issues. And if it is a firmware issue, what is the solution?

Workaround for 1066 2 component video input limitation?
                          by SayersWeb
Since getting an HD cable box I have three sources of component video (cable box, DVD, Playstation 2) to use with my front projector system. I've been using S-Video with the PS2, but it does not look anywhere near as good on a 92" screen.

So, I'm trying to think of a good workaround....

Max length for Component Video Cables?
                          by Joelp
Hi, I'm planning on buying a Sanyo PLV-Z3 and would like to mount the projector on the ceiling, this means I'll be purchasing a component video cable that is 20'-30' long. Can someone tell me if this too long, should I move the source closer, or am I making a mountain out of an anthill?

                          Hi guys,

I just replaced my Denon 3802 with a Rotel 1066 yesterday, hooked up to a Rotel 1075 amp. I haven't had much of a chance to listen to it yet but so far it sounds awesome.

I have a problem with my video connections though. I had no problems with the Denon 3802 so...

                          by Kevin P
A customer with a B&K Reference 50 is upgrading to a plasma. He is using the component video switching/upconversion feature in his Ref 50, and was wondering if it's possible to assign the same component input to more than one A/V input.

In this case, he wants to have the option of...
