Max length for Component Video Cables?

Hi, I'm planning on buying a Sanyo PLV-Z3 and would like to mount the projector on the ceiling, this means I'll be purchasing a component video cable that is 20'-30' long. Can someone tell me if this too long, should I move the source closer, or am I making a mountain out of an anthill?

I'd like to use wireworld chroma 5 component cables www.wireworldaudio.com

    thanks

20-30' is not too long in theory, but it will depend on how good the cable is, sheilding, and potential for noise introduction along the way. I made a 30' DIY component cable out of quad-shield RG-6 and could not tell the difference between it and 1.5m IXOS component cable but that doesnt mean there wasnt one.

I believe there's an article on audioholics.com that get's very specific (and scientific) about the length of cables and the distortion factor as length increases. If you're really interested (and you don't mind a somewhat techincal read), i'd check it out.
      Hope it helps...

Mine are at least that long from my equipement rack to the PJ and haven't noticed any issues at all.

Its probably grossly overpriced, but if you already have it and cant retun it, it works.

agreed, friend works at best buy and if you knew the mark up on Monster cables, youd never buy them again. I have touched them in going on 5 years.

I have a 35' for dvd and 25' for xbox. cant mention names due to forum rules, but they are well shielded and can only be purchased online. They are excellent. :T

Very very thick and heavy, and very stiff, but nice nonetheless :E

see those thick cables behind the coffee/xbox table?

              thats them :B

My brother used to work at best buy and he got me a computer cable for something with his discount. I dont remember what it was supposed to cost (think of the cheapest connectivity cable at best buy and its still probably $15) It was like $3.76 or something.

thanks for your answer. Do you know if the the component cable that comes with Infocus 4805 is a good one? Can you or anybody recomend me a good and not expensive brand?

                  Thanks

Ask Doug at CatCables about the Lioness cable. I have one at a run of 40'. It a beautiful thing. :E :E

I too made a 33' component cable using RG6 with good initial results. However after only 2 weeks (no moving it around either!) the solder joins broke loose and gave me a near heartattack when I lost all the green on my PJ. I spent some time trying to tweak the color back before realizing it was a cable problem. I had the cables soldered directly into a pair of HD15 VGA connectors and put the Component-VGA adapter on the back of my receiver.
For all the time it took me to do the cable ends in the first place and now re-doing the ends with with a short section (.75") of stranded copper to hopefully eliminate the broken solder problems I should have just bought a prefab cable... Live and learn.

Anyone tried using a simple VGA extension for this? How long and what were the results?

Problem with High End HDMI Cables
                              by urlawyer
Just read an article in a high end rag which talks about a problem with expensive HDMI cables. Seems that very expensive HDMI cables are very stiff and heavy, so they can damage the HDMI component chassis connectors. The cable industry is aware of the problem and they are working on a solution but...

                              Equal Length Speaker Cables?
                              by Russ L
Why do speaker cables need to be the same length? Isn't this especially hard if you are running a 5 channel SACD setup and your rear speaker is a 25 ft run along a wall from your amp. That would mean you'd need 5 times 25 ft= 125 ft of cable. Some say its important to have same lengths for matching...

                              by Kevin P
A customer with a B&K Reference 50 is upgrading to a plasma. He is using the component video switching/upconversion feature in his Ref 50, and was wondering if it's possible to assign the same component input to more than one A/V input.

In this case, he wants to have the option of...

Ok, I need some advice. I am thinking that I will be in need of a component splitter in the very near future have. As of now I have component from my HD Cable box, and also from my LG-7832 upconverting DVD player go to my Onkyo TXNR801-b receiver. The Onkyo has only 1 component out which I send to my...
