I've not tried a PS3, but I have tried a Pioneer Elite DV-48AV DVD player that converts DSD to PCM and it worked fine with the RSP-1069 in my store. If the PS3 does that conversion, it should work.

I think my trade is price was much more then fare...it woul dbe the same as me finding someone to buy my 1068 for $1900.

IMO your dealer should AT LEAST give you a 60% trade in value. Its a two way street. My dealer treated me so well this time (and times in the past) that I gave $600 worth of interconnects (after I had extras from buying Kingcats :T ) so they could throw them in in order to make the resale of the 1068 easier.

Ill update as best I can with the SACD PS3 playback issue as besty I can, but I can say that as of now I am personally not having luck. I am not giving up though because I cant think of any reason why it shouldnt work.
That was about the same offer I gave to the dealer as well but at the moment he says he can not to the trade in but will look out for a potential customer for me if he can find one. I don't worry about it too much as I am not in a hurry. I may sell it myself or possibly keep it and just use for a preamp in another music system but that is a bit overkill for what I need.

In the end, I will make it known that he lost out on a lot of potential future sales and that he thinking it too short term. But if it comes to that, then I probably will not purchase Rotel as he is the only dealer that I know in this country.

        1069 and excessive noise

I have a 1069 connected to a Pioneer Elite Kuro. My experience is that the 1069 appears to absorb a significant amount of noise that it then passes to my rotel Amp. There's a low level steady state noise when it is the only component enabled....When I power on the Kuro the noise becomes somewhat cyclical and much much louder.

I have everything plugged into a high end panamax power conditioner.

Anyone else have or heard of a problem like this?

When I contacted my dealer on upgrading my 1057 to a 1058 he said they offer no trade ins and suggested I sell mine on Audiogon. Maybe I need to look at other dealers.

going from a 1057 to 1058 isnt really all that much of an "upgrade". If you were a good customer to the dealer and have bought a lot in the past then giving you some trade in value would be reasonable....aside from that thou I dont think they should be very excited about taking a 1057 to trade in for a 1058.

Offer to trade your 1057 in for a 1069 and 1077 and see what he says.

Actually I was not even specific as to what I wanted to upgrade to now that I think of it. When I inquired if there was any way to trade in the 1057 toward some new gear, he pretty much shut it down immediately and said they don't offer anything like that. Not sure if I fall into "good customer" status but I have spent about 6 grand there in the last year or so on speakers, receiver and a TV.

I am leaning toward the 1069 and 1085 combo instead of the 1058 though when I do upgrade. I may just pick up the 1085 first to try out and see what I think compared to my 1057's internal amps. I really don't need a seven channel amp. I already purchased a separate 2 channel amp for my zone 2.

Tommy, don't feel bad -- my dealer was the same way. Fortunately, I've found that Rotel components sell very well on audiogon, and I have probably come out ahead vs. trading in.

I am setup in a 7.1 configuration. When watching a DVD with DD 5.1, I still get sound from my rear speakers. If I understand this correctly, it is the "+ XS" mode that sends sound to these speakers.

Watching an HD DVD with HBR audio, the display shows "multi channel" and the rear speakers are dead.

Is the following statement correct? "For my rear speakers to have any output from a 5.1 disc with HD sound, the 1069 would have to have onboard decoding for the new high def audio types."

That brings me to my next question - Is it possible that the 1069 will be upgraded to include codecs for the new high def audio types?

                  Thanks - Herb

XS will send mono information to the center rears, a pseudo 7.1.. I would play all Dolby and DTS tracks with PLIIx applied. I believe you hit the SUR+ button then left or right to change the DD and DTS decoding formats.

Not true. For rears to work on the 1069, you would have to have an HD disc that has a native 7.1 track and a player that can decode it. Currently very few players can do this. There's probably even less discs that have it.

Some pre-amps that support multi-channel PCM over HDMI can apply PLIIx to a 5.1 signal to get center rears. Unfortunately, the 1069 cannot.

No. The 1069 can not be upgraded with support for the new codecs, the DSP chip does not support them.

Regarding trade in issues, I find many dealers do not accept trades now, and most that do just turn around and sell on audiogon or ebay, and give the customer what the equipment sells for minus costs and a commission fee.

Does this processor still have issues or has Rotel fixed most of them?

                          Birdman,
I'd like to see some post-processing for the rears as well,
but only time will tell(something I believe Rotel can do if they choose to do so)

Has any 1069 owners got a sony 550 hooked up to it?
Is all well(I have the sony coming)

Dolby TrueHd & DTS HD through Rotel 1069?

First of all, I'm sorry if this is too long, and being sent as a reply. I've only submitted one thing in this forum before and I forget how I entered it as a new question. LOL!
I am pretty ignorant to many things audio video and as such I have a question that I hope someone can help me out with. I had bought the ROTEL 1069 more then a year ago, hoping that it would be all I would need in the department of listening and viewing bluray movies in addition to listening to good quality music. I use the PS3 as my source bluray player and I only recently, (a year later), realized that the PS3 along with all bluray players streams some kind of Dolby TruHd or DTS HD audio. When I glanced at the face plate of the Rotel 1069, it had no markings or symbols of either audio format. In my horror and in somewhat of a panic, I drove to the nearest BEST BUY to glance at the midfi processors only to find that they all supported these Dolby TrueHd & DTS HD audio formats. I quickly went home and started to search the internet for answers only to discover that ROTEL is launching a 15 series which will "process" these formats. In layman terms, can somebody take time to describe for me whether or not I have been listening to these HD audio formats? All I know is this.... On some forums people seem to be discouraged that maybe the 1069 is already obsolete in this HD audio format capacity. On other forums however, people talk about how the PS3 does the decoding of the HD audio tracks and sends it through the ROTEL 1069 via the HDMI connections. These latter forums sound more promising to me, but half the stuff they say goes over my head. For instance, they talk about "PCM" stuff and about "analog connections." What they don't talk about is whether or not the HD audio is loss less as it starts with their Bluray Player, goes through there 1069, and comes out through their speakers. Also, if the PS3 does process the DTS HD through it, and it successfully makes its way through the 1069 unhindered, then why would it be nessesary to buy a 15 series ROTEL processor? Or why would a 15 series ROTEL processor even bother processing these new HD formats? I'm pretty audio ignorant, but I thought that analog connections were more of a means to enjoy hi fidelity LP playback at the begining of the music chain. Analog connections are not the first thing that pop into my head when I think about the PS3's DTS HD audio being loss less as it is converted to "PCM", whatever that means, through the ROTEL 1069. I just don't know. Please, please, please, somebody on this forum, feel my pain, and give me an answer and explanation that I will understand.

                              Rick,

Do not worry as you are getting the full benefit of lossless audio from the 1069 as you would be from the 15 series or any of the other receivers you see in Best Buy. Just make sure you have the PS3 set to output PCM and not output Bitstream over HDMI.

It is this simple, your PS3 will decode Dobly TrueHD or DTS HDMA and convert and output it as 5.1 or 7.1 PCM to your 1069. As long as you are using a PS3, none of these receivers will ever display TrueHD of DTS as long as the PS3 in the source.

But you are getting all of the benefit, you just will not ever see it displayed and you have no need to upgrade or change the 1069 for this purpose.

Just make sure to update your PS3. Older firmware did not decode DTS-HD.
