rmb-1095 vs rb-1080...and processor?

Most find the 1095 in stereo to be fairly comparable to the 1080. But depending on your needs, adding just a 1075 to your 1080 might be a good compromise.

If HDMI and new HD-dvd/BR sound formats aren't important to you, the RSP-1068 or 990 will do you well (edge to the 1068 here). If you think HDMI is for you, I would probably hold on to the Yamaha until newer units arrive.

A good choice would be the RSX-1057. It's got a tuner, HDMI switching, and 95% of the sound of the 1068 when used as a preamp. A lot of people are very happy with just an RSX-1057/RB-1080 combo.

I have the RMB 1095 with a Denon 3803 pre/pro combo. So far I have enjoyed this setup quite a bit as my Def Techs came to life when I went into separates. I found more clarity in music and movies. The bass was kicked up and more tighter. Better control for my speakers with 200 watts of power to boot is nice juice for my Def Techs. I've never heard the RB 1080 but I too am considering getting it for my mains and creating a 7.1 surround setup in the near future.

I've noticed the damping factor higher with the RB 1080 at 1000 according to Rotel's brochure specs and the RMB 1095 at 400 damping factor. I would need to listen though to the RB 1080 and see for myself how it sounds.

Anyways, whatever your decision I think you will be happy with either. I love my Rotel RMB 1095 for both music and movies. I've found myself listening to my cd collection all over again. A worthy investment. Good luck.

Rb-1080 (or 1077?)

I was in similar shoes. I had the RSP-1068 along with RB-1095 powering B&W Nautilus speakers. I added the RB-1080 to the mix to imprive the 2 channel performance. In my opinion, the 1080 is better than the 1095 for two channel. It was more refined and had better control of my 804's. I would keep the 1080 and, as suggested by Kevin D, get a 1075 to power the rest of the system. This will save some money for the prepro and tuner. Obviously I'm biased, but the 1068 is a fine unit.

If you want to consider something a bit more expensive than the 1095, I would recommend looking into getting the Rotel 1077 ($2500). I ultimately replaced both my 1080 and 1095 with the 1077. An excellent 7 channel amp. Seach my other posts to see a review of the 1077 I did. Basically, I consider the 1077 to be a better version of a 1080, but in a small, cool running, 7 channel package. If you only need 5 channels, you can bi-amp your mains for an excellent 2 channel experience. :T
