    RSP 1068 Trouble

    Hi,

I am new to HTGuide so I apologize if this is a re-run of an older thread.

I have a Rotel RSP-1068 that I purchased a few years ago. Its suddenly having a lot of problems. The Front L/R channels are dead and occasionally it appears to just lose sync with the audio source and go completely silent (at least the remaining channels go out: center, rear and sub). Power cycling seems to help this second issue but the front L/R channels are dead.

I am taking it in to get it fixed at the shop where I purchased it but I was wondering if anybody could comment on my following questions:

    - Is this a chronic issue with Rotel processors? I thought they were pretty highly regarded so I am pretty surprised by this. Is reliability an issue with Rotel?

    - This thing runs REALLY hot. Even when its idle its scorching hot. As near as I can tell its always hotter than my 5-channel Rotel AMP. I can only assume this has played a role in its current condition. Is this normal for Rotel? Is this normal for all comparable surround processors?

Any feedback here is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Mike

If you search on: '1068 hot' you'll get a ton of results, so it seems like it's pretty typical...

Sounds like a problem with the digital board. If you can hear sound using the multi-channel inputs then it's definitely the digital board. Not unheard of, but uncommon in the grand scheme of things.

Heat's normal as the preamp is always doing something, as opposed to an amp that really only gets ran hard in small peaks.

You can use the search tool here to find problems with Rotel products. Even if a problem appears a lot in this forum, its not likely a pervasive problem. Posters here constitute only a tiny percentage of the total buyers of Rotel products. I have had my 1056 receiver for over two years with no problems. Regarding the heat issue, that should be specifically addressed by you with Rotel since the preamp should not run that hot if it is operating correctly.

            hi
i am getting concerned about the heat of my new 1068. you could literally fry an egg on the top of it and i am not sure if that is normal. it is much hooter than my 1075 amp or any other component in my rack. any help would be appreciated.

            1068 and Video Sync
            by skillasw
I have a question for the group. I have a 1068/1075 combo with various audio and video inputs. I have been experiencing a problem on the video side of the equation lately. Our primary operating mode is watching SDTV Dish Network via S-Video and digital audio inputs from a Dish Player 625. The symptoms...

Rotel 1068 Initial impressions vs. Lexicon DC-1
            by spkerguy
            Hello everyone,

I just hooked the 1068 up last Friday and probably have spent a good 10 hours with it so far. The unit I was coming from was a lexicon DC-1 (latest V4. 1999) that had the center channel and sub inputs blown so getting the center and sub back was refreshing. ...

            1068 and Rotel problems
            by Steve_the_Hokie
I bought a 1068 used that was only a month old. The original owner thought it was too difficult for some of the family members to operate, which I didn't really find to be true at all. Anyway, I had the unit sitting around the house for a month in the box while I was deciding what 5-channel amplifier...

            Rotel RSP-1068 vs Rotel RC-1070
            by hired goon
            G'day,

I'm going to get a Rotel RMB-1075 5 x 120w power amplifier, and I'm wondering what kind of pre-amplifier to match it with.

I was seriously considering a Rotel RSP-1068 AV pre-processor, but since I listen to music about 90% of the time, I figured that the stereo...
