    Newbe to Rotel/used 1056 a good start?

Owned several Denon AVRs and looking to move into a better place for HT and music. My neighbor as a used 1056 about 1 year of age in great shape for a little less than 1K. I would like to move to separates at some point and wanted know if the 1056 is a good start? AVR now and add AMP as required. My other thought was a much older Rotel pre/pro combo like a RSP985/RB985. I can pick these up at audiogon for about the same price. Speaker setup is NHT SB2s in med size room. Need some advice, any thoughts? Thanks...

From all accounts, the 1056 is at least 90% as good as a 1068 when used as a pre-amp, plus you get a tuner. I would prefer the 1056 vs going to a 985 combo.
