Hello! Wonder if anyone can help (short timescale I'm afraid....)
Kit: Arcam DV88+, B&W ASW675, M&K K-17's and K-4's.
I have a Denon 3803, and I added a 1075 amp and was very happy. The 3803 processor seems to do a good job.
I've borrowed a 1098 from my dealer, and I put it back into the box, disgusted!! After setup, the sound was very thin and gave me a headache! Well I got it out of the box after reading about the sub setting level error, and I've got a much better sound out of it - better than the Denon on all Digital sources, but about the same on analogue.
But here's my problem...
Every time my fridge or heating or whatever turns on or off, I get a click from some or all of the speakers! I can simulate this with a cheap lamp and sure enough I can make the system make terrible noises. On analogue (but still using bass management, obv) it can even "stop" the sound for a split second. On general use, I get a click every 2-3 minutes...
Any clues?
Some things I've done, and some observations:
This is NOT a relay clicking!!!
With the volume off (or mute on) the problem stops. At volume 2, it's there (so it's the 1098 innards, for sure).
I have changed the power cable, tried a fancy Isotek one, tried plugging it in in different places, and even used an Isotek interference stopper.
The Denon makes none of these noises.
I only have 3 inputs, one analogue, one coax and one optical. No video.
One one occasion (listening via optical) the click was so loud the 1098 suddenly turned the volume down on me. Well, the volume indication was the same but the output volume was halved. Had to re-cycle inputs to get it back.
Firmware is 1.1.5, though the hardware is probably an early unit.
I want to like this thing, but the clicking is shocking! Any clues before I send it back?
Andrew
