Low volume L/R difference on my RC-1070

I noticed the other day that when I have my stereo setup at a very low volume...the left channel is considerably louder than the right. It only happens at a volume level so low you can barely hear it unless you get right up on the speakers so im not too concerned; just curious if there is a problem. As soon as I increase the volume or decrease it from this point, the left channel bias goes away. My equipment is listed in my signature.

Where in Northern Virginia do you live? You have same Rotel gear as me, excluding RB-1070, which I upgraded to RB-1080. Do you like your B&W speakers?

My rc-972 used to do that as well, but only an almost inadible level. Crank up the volume and it is gone.

Same problem, opposite side over here. I also have the RC-1070. I wouldn't worry about it.

            thyname,
everythings stationed in mclean. love my speakers of course. i listened to a ton of speakers before settling on the b&ws...they have a warmth to them that i didnt really get in any other set of speakers that were in my price range.

thank you all for your replies...i feel much better. :T

sounds like the volume pot needs to be cleaned/replaced. i've had this problem in some Audiocontrol car equiptment and it drove me nuts. i'd get it fixed unless it truly isn't a problem for you. good luck....

It could be an inherent limitation of the volume pot being a regular attenuator. A stepped-attenuator, on the other hand, would have perfect and precise left/right channel balancing.

Right now, I'm debating whether I should send my preamp in to be modded with stepped attenuators.
