Receiver as prepro vs 1066 : need a push!

I need someone to put my mind at ease and push me over the edge

I've been looking forward to replacing my Yammy RXV-800 receiver (used as a prepro) with the RSP-1066 for quite some time. The only thing holding me back is the thought that somehow, DSPs and DACs don't make much of a difference for movies (I'm 80% DVD and 20% CD, so my movie watching exprience is top priority).

I have read many conflicting reports that states basically that either : "You will not hear a difference" (and I should consider going overboard to the 3K+ prepro) to "it will make a VAST difference".

What is *your* experiences? Did swapping a receiver as prepro with the Rotel produce any kind of improvement for DVDs? Or, do you think it will?

(Before someone asks... My local dealer doesn't allow in-home testing anymore, and I am unfamiliar with his setup and speakers (B&Ws in a padded room) )

    Hyenna,

I don't know about your Yammy, but there is no way my 4.5 year old Elite Receiver can compare with the 1066. I just don't see how it's possible. Therefore I am going with the 1066 very shortly. 8)

Hopefully someone in here knows your receiver and can give you better information then I.

I've used all sorts of receivers as pre amps incl. HK, Sony, and Denon and none compared to the Rotel 1055 or 1066 as a pre amp in my systems. The Rotels simply had better use of the surrounds and a more real sound stage that the others could not match.

I had a yamaha 992 and just upgraded to a 1055. I noticed a huge improvement. I personally dont know if the 1066 is worthwhile IMHO. Ive heard both and chose the 1055 without any regret. If i wanted anything else, it would be the 1098. I just feel that there isnt enough of a difference. Im sure some will argue that with me.

As for the DSP's, i never used any on my yamaha. I think they are just useless features, but thats also my opinion. I used to put it on sports for sports games, but now that the new games are 5.1, dont need that anymore..
I'm just sittin here watchin the wheels go round and round...

I had a Yamaha RXV3000 and was very satisfied with the performance until I decided that I needed more power. Went to the Rotel dealer in Seattle, & purchased Rotels RMB1095 and was using the RXV3000 as a pre. Then I got the bug to listen to Rotels RSP1066, decided to purchase one and after the 2 week waiting period replaced the Yamaha, with the Rotel. IMHO the sound quality is hands down in favor of the Rotel. The sound stage is more 3D as well as more open. That was 7 months ago, I've never looked back since. :P

My story is similar to that of Dave. Added a dedicated power amp, which was a great addition, but wondered if a 1066 would refine the sound even more. It did!!!

I concur with Dave and Keith, I owned a Yamaha RX-V3200 with the RMB-1095, I noticed some improvement. I sold my Yami and went for the RSP-1066. the improvement was significant. I then decided to upgrade to the 1098 which was another significant improvement over the 1066 (new DACS and upgraded processor). If you can upgrade to the 1066, you will indeed appreciate the sonic improvement.

              Hope this helps,

              Azeke

                Hi!

I have a problem with my RSP 1066...
As I push the main power button, the red LED on the front panel starts glowing red, but the display is not booting up...

It seems like the pre amp is locked in standby mode, or something is wrong with it.

                I...

shopping for a GOOD used receiver. Please advice
                by tdt00
                Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and interested in buying a good used receiver mainly for 2-ch music and movies. I'm planning to use the receiver to push my dynaudio 2-way. I'd like a used receiver that have good sound quality and a little reliable but easy on the pocket, about under $400-$500....

Receiver vs true pre amp comparison
                by Andrew Pratt
I know this could likely have gone in the Club Rotel but I wanted to show people that receivers can make decent pre amps in some cases....

As luck would have it I am presently lucky enough to own both the Rotel 1055 receiver and the Rotel 1066 pre amp. For those that don't know about...
