    RDV-1060 analog output questions

    Hi all,

Since I'm considering the upgrade to an RDV-1060, I was hoping to recieve some feedback on the following:

A quote from the (online) RDV-1060's manual:
A set of RCA jacks, labeled AUDIO OUTPUT sends either six channels of decoded analog audio or two channels of analog audio from the RDV-1060 to the analog audio inputs of an audio surround processor, preamplifier, integrated amplifier...

    Questions:
Is it possible to use the stereo analog outputs when playing CD's, and use the six analog outputs for DVD-A, without having to change the output mode in the setup menu?
Or is the signal comming out of the front left and front right channels of the six analog outputs identical to the signal coming out of the stereo analog outputs when playing CD's?

I believe the way the manual puts it, one has to either select the stereo or the six channel analog outputs and, in doing so, deactivate one of them...

Thanks in advance and best wishes for 2005 to you all!

I think I figured it out myself, since my current DVD player features separate 2ch analog outputs aswell. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to be like this:

No matter what setting one chooses in the player's setup menu (2ch or 5.1ch), the separate stereo jacks always output a stereo signal. The setting only applies to the amount of channels outputted through the 5.1 analog outputs (i.e. only 2 or all 5.1) during DVD-A playback.

I'm still curious as to what effect people considered this to have on the quality of the signal. I myself for instance can't really find any difference between a stereo signal through the 5.1 analog outputs and the stereo signal through the stereo analog outputs. Should this also be the case with the RDV-1060, I don't understand why the presence of a separate stereo output is seen as a desirable feature (RDV-1050 <=> RDV-1060).

    Any thoughts?

There's another thread on here showing why it's nice. The guy had a loaner 1050 which only has the 5.1 analog out. It's either 2channel or 5.1channel. You have to go into the menu to change that. He was trying to use headphones through the REC out. The REC out requires stereo analog inputs on the source to work correctly. If he was keeping the 1050, he would have to go into the setup menu everytime he wanted to listen to DVD-A through the headphones (to change the output from 5.1 to stereo). Plus he would have to move the 'stereo' output cables to a different input each time because you can't send the multi-channel input out the REC out jacks.

In addition to REC out, the ZONE2 out would have the same issues.. It's alot easier to have a digital connection to a VIDEO input for DVD's, the 5.1 connection to the multi-channel input for DVD-A's, and then a stereo pair to the CD input for a stereo only version of what's playing (for listening or REC/ZONE2 output).

Would you go so far as to state that, if one won't be using the REC/ZONE2 output of the pre/pro, a separate analog stereo output option on the DVD-player is not that important? (Assuming that one doesn't mind the pre/pro display is showing "MULTI IN" (5.1 analog input) instead of "CD" when listening to a (stereo) CD?)

Is there no quallity difference between a stereo signal outputted through the 5.1 analog outputs and a stereo signal outputted through the stereo analog outputs?

It's probably not that important. However, listening to a CD through the multi-inputs will only be a 2-channel stereo mix of the CD, no subwoofer or digital tricks can be applied. If you are fine listening to a CD in this 'pure direct' mode, great! For me if I can't apply Pro Logic II to it, I'd go nuts.

So I'll revise my statement. If you have no interest in sending the output to REC/Zone 2 AND you will be content with any stereo output only going to your front left/right, then the separate 2-ch and 5-ch outputs will be useless.

Rsp-1570: Analog Stereo with Bass Management

Does anyone know if we the 1570 can send lower freq to subs from analog without converting the signal to digital?

I am currently using BYPASS MODE, but would like to use my expensive subwoofer if this is possible.

RDV-1050 not the way to go?

            Hi all,

I'm currently considering selling my M*r*ntz DV6400 in order to get a Rotel DVD player to match the rest of my gear, thus the 1050 (or 1060). However, a phonecall to Rotel resulted in the following comment:
"Not only is the step from a DV6400 to a 1050 not worth it,...

            Hi all

After doing a search and reading alot of threads on this forum, i fear i may have either learnt alot or confused myself more than ever.

            Hi,

I've been running a 1056 with a 7.1 speaker setup for a couple of years now, and started watching Blu-Ray movies from a PS3 80GB model last year. The PS3 is connected to the 1056 with digital coax and component.

Since my current setup is limited to 5.1 and 6.1, both...

No true analog bypass on RSP-1066???

Prior to committing to a multi-channel pre-amp (RSP-1066), I’ve been studying the specifications and user manuals for both the Rotel RSP-1066 and very new RSP-1098.

            1. Some observations from RSP-1098 manual:-

            (a) On page 13 in the RSP-1098 manual it has an explicit...
