Many thanks for you answer, I just went today to hear again the 802Di with the mcintosh gear but this time I was asking to my dealer hear both speaker (802D and 804D) with this mc gear (mc252+mcd301+C2300), men the 802 D are far superior speaker in anyway, no doubt. The 804D is good speaker but very different to the 802D; it’s no only the bass output the mids are very superior too. You are right with better amp you will get little extra something but if you could get a better speaker you will get a lot of sound.
Congrats again for your new baby’s.

Just joking a bit about finding the 'game-ender'.

Definitely still on the journey...but I think I might settle and put down roots here for a while.

You may want to try raising the rear of the center speaker to angle it down from the height above your TV. I had mine angled down using the wedge type door stoppers and it made a noticeable difference, particularly when you're sitting.

I've since changed my setup to have my center speaker the same height as my mains.

                Enjoy your new speakers.

                  Good info!!!!

I do have the shelf actually tilted down forward. I was thinking about getting some L bracket like things to help hold the center and tilt the shelf even more to aim it more. I am just worried about damaging the speaker. Who knows I might just leave it alone until I get a LED/LCD TV and mount it on a stand and then move the center down to the stand level and aim it up to the correct height. Or who knows what will change in the system!

So far I am enjoying them. It's fascinating how much difference can be heard to things you "thought you knew well," only to hear things differently and almost like hearing them for the first time!

I just wish the 802s were lighter so I could get the spikes put on them easily. It's tough having to wait for someone to help me put them on so I can get them back into the correct position. :/

But I think I'll be okay if I don't get the spikes on them for a while. ha ha.

Rediscovering music so much fun I just got a lot of sacd's I play of from my computer. Sounds fabulous

Edit: So the point is that I have done this several times. A little tweak here. Another cable there. Sometimes no difference, sometimes its substantial. And all of a sudden I have a new music collection

New 802 Diamonds are in the House
                      by Freddie40
I got my 802 Diamonds at 3:30pm today It took 3 hours to unpack, spike, set up then clean up. From what few hours I did listen to them I really do love them. I made a good choice. Since I really never listened to the 802Ds the only thing I can compare them to is my old Matrix 802s. The new speakers...

                      New 800 series
                      by wildmda
I am considering a year end deal on an 802D and HTM2. Sounds like a new 800 series is coming out. I am curious as to thoughts on how the value of the 802Ds/HTM2 will hold if/when a new series is released next year and the are 802Ds/HTM2 discontinued.

Went with a group to Stereo Exchange in NYC to hear their wares. And the new 800 series were there.

Let me just say that to all the people complaining about the way the speaker looks with the silver trim, rest assured that it looks very handsome in person. I think the flash on camera's...

preamp and amp for 802d and HTM2
                      by wildmda
I am interested in thoughts on the best preamp and amps for 802d's and htm2.

I am considering mx120 for preamp and mc402 for an amp for 802ds...keeping my rotel 1095 for the htm2 and the rears. Sounds like mx120 is discontinued.

Thoughts on these models of mcintoshes...
