Interesting, but I do admit two tweeters looks rather ugly.

Where did you get the photo from?

                    LAWL... Two tweeters...

I seriously doubt that would ever be in a B&W design...

Didn't mean to fool anyone but waking up this morning it actually looks half convincing. Double D guys......come on.

Doh! I should have done two marlan heads!

If B&W read this site I bet there is some junior guy in the R&D department going "Darn it, how did my idea for a new speaker get on the web".

I think its really a bad time for B&W to bring out the 805 double D at this time with the latest news of the Nautilus bookshelf coming out this spring.

How small is the top tweeter going to be? 1/8 inch?

                                            805DD white paper

The brief was to give the 805s all the technical advantages of the higher 800 series models.

Simply chopping and rescaling the 800D resulted in problems with the smaller diamond tweeter and FST midrange. My techs did not have nano technology (unlike the better resourced team on the "petite escargot" project) and small dimension diamonds would have trouble getting down to the crossover frequency of the full sized FST. Our solution was to retain the scale of the head and tweeter but revise the bass unit cabinet and driver to a suitable scale. The 805 DD has a flowport in the bottom (you have to buy DD stands with a hole in the bottom)

The tweeter phasing problem is resolved by pulsing between tweeters like the lights at a level crossing. That way only one tweeter works at a time. This is a simple application of fractal chaos theory and tweeter symbiosis theory....or I just made that up.

You can read the full white paper on the B&W website when the 805DD is released.

If anyone has bothered to read this far (I can't believe I have typed this far) it was curious reading the review of the Signature Diamond in Hifi News or World or whatever. They reckoned it was good, but speakers half its price were better. Too many compromises to achieve the industrial designer looks.

The Signature 805 was significantly better sounding and looking than the N805 and sold for an 804 price. Has B&W lost sight of what is important or is it just a so so review the failed to capture the speaker at its best? The reviewer said that the speaker was set up by B&W so that it performed at its best.

I will have to see if I can pop out to our signature dealer and hear a pair - although I suspect they may not be prepared set up a demo.
