    when is bypass really bypass

Lets say that you are driving your 802D's with a great CD player, great Amp but the problem is Preamp and Processor.

Everyone knows a Preamp is better sound than a Processor. However, If you are using a Processor in "bypass" with only gain or volume on a top unit like a lexicon mc12Bv5, aren't you getting a pure sound from the CD player direct.

Not all bypasses are created equal of course, but..........

I have 802D's with a Classe SACD 2 athrough a Halcro Processor in bypass mode and it sound amazing, I just cant imagine how it could sound better! I know it is supposed to get better with a pre, but I'm extremely happy with these combo!

      Aldo,
I had my system bypass thru the lexicon mc12 and didn't think it could sound better until I had an X1 pass labs preamp. Using the preamp to bypass the signal from the processor and direct for cd it definitely sounded better. Then the ML 326S was outstanding.

A processor can't sound as good as a good dedicated preamp. But why not. Bypass should be bypass, but it isn't is it.

        RSX-972 VS RSP-1066 as Preamp/Processor
        by chanlon
        Hello,

I own a RSX-972 which I use with a Rotel RMB-1075 for both music and DVD formats. Recently, I've been considering purchasing the RSP-1066 as the dedicated processor/preamp in my system. My question is whether there is a substantial difference in the processor and other audiophile...

Does anyone use a Preamp to bypass HT
        by misterdoggy
I am using a CD to DAC to bypass in the Processor. I'm wondering if a good Preamp in the process might add something.

This would be just for stereo CD's of course. Any experience would be appreciated.

Pembroke replied to this post (see his quote below), and got me to thinking... here's the result:

I love my Rotel gear, and it fits my present budget. When I got my system, I was expecting to watch movies mostly. Because of the quality of my equipment, I now listen to 2-ch music more...

So not all Bypass modes sound the same
        by misterdoggy
I haven't had a chance to test the theory, but isn't bypass = bypass. I mean isn't the signal untouched or are there other factors ie: wiring, plugs. I mean there has to be something in order to control volume.

I am about to go bypass mode thru a Pass Labs X1 which the volume control...

        Rotel RC1570 HT bypass mode
        by TimbaLand
I am using Aux1 for HT bypass for Fronts with volume fixed so that when I watch movies volume control is done by processor. Does the RC1570 bypass mode pass through the sound from processor untouched through to power amp? I am asking this because when I read on HT bypass there is two types. One is...
