Having just purchased a pair of 803D's, I am now starting from scratch the whole 5.1 setup
For the center channel I'll be using the HTM4S for now because the HTM3S is too big (and heavy) for the setup and I'll consider it when I redecorate the room or have a dedicated A/V room. I know voicing wont be similar to the 803D, but I have to have that compromise, for now.
I'm having trouble in deciding about the rear speakers, though. The 805S are too expensive, for now, so, I'm considering either the 705, CM1 or SCMS.
One of the complains I had about my previous setup was that the rear speakers were mounted at ear height (same as the front speakers) and I felt that surround effects were compromised.
Having this in mind, I'd like to place the rear speakers 1 or 2 foot above ear height.
The SCMS would be a good choice, but I feel it's a poor investment since it only serves for surround purposes. Also, it is not a cheap solution and they're not what I'd call 'small'. Besides, I'd have to hide the cables from the ground up to the place where the speaker hangs.
Next, the 705 are a well regarded standmount, but personally I don't know this speaker. It has the advantage of being front ported, but they're big and I don't know how I to put them at 4,5ft from the floor. I'd have to use a speaker stand, but I haven't manage to find one that has at least 3,5ft height and are stable enough.
My initial favourites, the CM1's, are gorgeous, small and cheap. But, on the other hand, I still don't know how the hell am I going to place them on stands and 4,5ft from the floor (again), they have 84dB sensitivity 8O and I read somewhere that they do not excel on dynamics and detail (the latter IS important for surround duties).
What to do?
Thanks.
