RAITE dvd player? Ever hear of this one?

    This player looks pretty cool.

    Plays DVD's, CD's, VCD's, SVCD's and even MP3 CDR's -- just like the Apex.

    Anyone ever hear of it?

For $200, seems like something must be lacking though, like Audio/Video quality maybe.........?

I read a bunch of reviews on it and it doesn't seem that great. People are complaining of problems reading variable rate MP3's, background noises, video artifacts with DvD playback, etc .....

It can be had for $150 though, which is a pretty good deal for a player this versatile. But I have read many more promising reviews on the Apex unit which has the same versatility, without the problems experienced by the RAITE; also has the ability to disable macrovision and region coding.

Oh well, thought maybe I had found my new DvD player --- guess I'm still searching ........

I've seen the player locallay but the reviews were even worse then those for the Apex...really poor shielding so it caused all sorts of noise if placed near receivers etc.

It is such a nice looking unit. Unfortunate that it won't perform to standard. Aaaaa...one day!

Why do you suppose these small companies have released MP3 capable all-in-one disc players before the known names? Did the big guys just not see this coming? I'm also surprised how inexpensive the Riate and Apex (there is another one too) are at that price point. Sure, they're no Tosh 9100 but they're OK. I don't see anything by well known companies that sell for $150 like these players.

I wonder how long it will take someone to offer software for Sony's Playstation 2 allowing it to accept MP3 encoded discs?

Silli both the Raite and the Apex are just DVD-Rom drives with a power surply so it was really easy for them to add MP3 support as well as CDR and CDRW support since the drive already did this. The players we normally use aren't using DVD-ROM driver so its a lot more difficult to build in that support..thats also why the raite and apex are so cheap.

What I don't get is, why take the time to make a unit that offers all that the Raite does and not build a quality unit? If this unit was built just a tad better in the shielding dept(which could only had been a dollar or two more at the most) it would be selling like hotcakes. And the big boys would go hmmm.
