Adding AC Inlet to receiver that doesn't have one

Just wondering if anyone with a receiver that doesn't have a detachable power cord has added an AC inlut to their receiver so they can have one? I have a Marantz SR5400 which doesn't come with a detachable cord, so I was thinking of picking up and inlut and having it installed. That way I could get a thicker gauge powercord.

People have certainly done this. It wouldn't be inexpensive to pay someone else to do it.

Must make sure that there's room for an IEC receptacle and that nothing inside the chassis gets botched up when cutting the metal.

Depending on the quality of the job it could decrease the resale value. And some gear won't provide any performance boost going to a larger cord.

I agree with Thomas, it would be expensive to have someone install this for you. It's usually difficult to find the available real estate to perform an installation of an IEC receptacle. Not so much that there isn't room for the IEC (although that can happen), but you need room for the tools to perform the task.

It's not advisable to file it out since that practice will create all sorts of metal filings you have to deal with, so you need to chassis punch it. Filing and sawing is ok on an empty chassis, but too messy on a piece of equipment. The proper punch can be a little expensive.

My suggestion would be to simply replace the cord with a heavier one by installing it using the same method as the original. It's cheaper and this way you end up with the same result and no one would notice the mod if you wanted to sell. Usually the plastic or rubber grommet that the original cable passes through can be modified slightly to accomodate the larger cord.

Based on some discussion in another thread, I went ahead and ordered a VH Audio Flavor 3 power cord to replace the stock cord that came with the 1066 pre/pro. However, when it arrived today, I noticed that the cord had a three-prong female receptacle with a three-prong male receptacle versus a two-prong...

I have several pieces of audio equipment that have 2 prong no ground ac plugs. is it possible to convert this equipment to a 3 prong AC cord by adding an IEC socket, or hardwireing 3 conductor AC wire with a 3 prong plug?

Is this a good idea? Any reason why this would cause the sound...

        RB-1080 power cord options

        Hi there,
So my RB-1080 got delivered this weekend, but the seller forgot to put the power cord in the box. So while I wait for him to send me the stock cord I was just wondering if I could use a power cord from my PC to run the amp? Looks like the same socket to me.

        I'm not...

Behringer NU6000DSP iNUKE - How does it make rated power claims with 15A receptacle?
        by krips
I'm wondering how power amps make this much power while running off what seems to be a standard power cord? This one in particular claims to put out 4400w at 4ohms with what appears to be a 15a cord running to it? To me this would require around 36 amps to do, so a 50A cord and #8 wire or better would...
