    Denon 2807 Auto Setup (Audyssey)

For you techie gurus out there, do you know any specifics about the auto setup/eq features of the Denon receivers, e.g. 2807?

There is a thread on my Porsche forum regarding a receiver recommendation, the guy was planning on a 2807 and several of us suggested looking at Rotel, etc. A couple other guys said the auto setup routine of the Denon was a big selling point. I said (and so did others) to just buy a RS meter and calibrate it yourself and go with a Rotel unit.

The response I got was that the auto setup takes more into account than what you'd get out of a SPL meter/test, something about a fancy algorithm from Audyssey.

Anyone know how well it works? Here's a description - Manual

I have setup a few of the 07 series Denon for couple of customers before, but the main benefits of the Audyssey eq that's different for others is its ability to compensate for the viewers sitting outside of the sweet spot. Unless you have a lot of people "critically" watching a movie with you all the time, I'd still rather have the sweet spot when I watch the movies alone. Like many of us here, most of our friends just aren't as serious about home theater experience like we are.

OTOH, if you do want the best Audyssey algorithm, you're still better off buying the stand-alone version of the Audyssey EQ component.

Audyssey does not do auto-setup; that is built into all Denons to begin with. Audyssey adds automatic EQ for each channel which operates in the amplitude and time domains. Using an RS meter only gets you more accurate level settings than you can do by ear.

You can look up reviews of the Audyssey EQ (including the one I did as part of my report on the Denon 4806) in many places.

Yeah, that's what confused me. They were talking about auto-setup and EQ seperately but only mentioned the setup...

I finally figured it out after someone mentioned the Audyssey functionality.

IMO’s needed on HT set up for amp & processor

Hi everyone! I need opinions on a HT setup for the trade off between speakers and equipment.

This is what I’m building with speakers.

          Front - 802D
          Center - Htm2D
          Surround sides - 804S
          Surround rears - 804

DCX2496 benefited by FBQ2496? how about vs denon 3806/2807?
          by zacjones
I just got a DCX2496. My subs aren't built yet and I've never used it. Apparently there are no feedback destroyer functions built into it (for some reason I thought there were). Would I benefit by adding an FBQ2496 or DSP1124 into the system? How about a DEQ2496?

          703 and Denon AVR-2807 receiver
          by Mozart
I am picking up a pair of 703s this weekend and am deciding on the best receiver for them. Does anyone have any experience in matching the 703s with the Denon AVR-2807? Do they work well together? Alternatively, I am considering the Yamaha HTR5990.

          Any feedback is appreciated....

I just purchased the new Integra 9.8 a couple of months ago and it comes with the new audyssey calibration setup and its big talk at avs and I thought I would bring it up here because we all know that HTguide is the best...It might have already been discussed, but I've been away for a while and haven't...

          New Features for Denon AVR-3808CI / 4308CI
          by Blindamood
On October 1, Denon posted a feature pack upgrade that owners of the AVR-3808CI / 4308CI receivers can download and install via the Ethernet port. The coolest part (and one of the main reasons I chose this receiver) is that it can all be done online (purchase and install).
