This is a group that hasnt gotten a lot of action here in the US, but many are familier with their Inabsentia DVD-A that they released here in the US this past year. Well I went to their websight after receiving a copy of another of their CD's this week called Stars die The Delerium Years 1991-1997. Anyway it seems this group has been around a fairly long time and has put out a great deal of music. This Stars Die disk is a 2 disk set and must be a sort of greatest hits and is very Pink Floyd.
So, here is some info on a new disk upcomming of theirs that will also be in 5.1. If you have not purchased Inabsentia and have a chance to, I would very much recomend this disk. They have a very good sound.
This is from their web sight:
The new Porcupine Tree album Deadwing is scheduled for release on March 21st by Lava Records / Warner Music. Recorded between March-October, the album has been mixed in both stereo and 5.1 versions. Once again the 5.1 mix was done in collaboration with Grammy award winning producer Elliot Scheiner.
There are guest appearances by Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth, and Adrian Belew of King Crimson. The final track listing of the 60 minute album is:
1. Deadwing
2. Shallow
3. Lazarus
4. Halo
5. Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
6. Mellotron Scratch
7. Open Car
8. The Start of Something Beautiful
9. Glass Arm Shattering
A single of Shallow will be issued to US radio prior to the album in mid February. A commercially available version of the single will also be released in Europe, and will include other tracks recorded during the sessions but not included on the final album.
A special limited edition version of Deadwing will be available to preorder early next year. The band are still working on this but the plan is to include both the stereo and 5.1 mixes in a hardback book format with significantly expanded artwork.
In the meantime, deadwing.com, a microsite dedicated to the album will develop as the release date approaches, with audio, video and other media relating to the album added to the site on a regular basis.
