    My Anthology's build

Hi all, I am new to this forum and I just recently started my Anthology's. I have a set of Dali Concept's now and I want something better.
At first I planned to build the Statement II speaker but those were rejected by my better half due to their size. I really like the Statement design of Spleen21 so I decided to do the Anthology's instead with the cabinets designed by Spleen. (Many thanks for your help on the dxf file!!)
Width and depth will be the same as Spleen's design, I will only reduce height. (approx 1200mm high, depending on ear level of the tweeter. I need to measure that first.)
Also the tunnels most likele will need some adjustments due to the bigger mid woofers in the Anthology's.
All is done in 19mm MDF, baffle will be 2x 19mm.

Last week I received the CNC'd inner parts for the cabinet and currently I am sourcing all the parts except the drivers.

For crossover parts I will use the following:

Erse super Q coils for the woofers, Intertek coils for mid and high, Audyn Q4 condensators, mundorf resistors except high power ones. For those I will use Vishay non inductive ones.
Drivers I will order when the cabinets are done.
I am not sure yet if I will paint them or vineer them, I am leaning more to vineering at the moment but we will see.

This week I will start with the baffle dado's. Progress pictures will follow!

This week I rounded all the edges and glued the baffles together. Next thing to be done is cutting the baffles at an agle on the correct width in order to make them line up nicely with the radius of the braces.
After that I will start doing the driver cut-outs. :T
Never done that before so I hope all goes well.

Nice CNC'd parts you lucky bastard.

I really like those curved builds. What's the plan for finish?

Yes they are really nice! All the credits go to spleen21, he had designed this model for his Statement II build. Plan for finish not yet known.

          Today, after a busy period at work I was able to make some progress again;

Baffles cut at the correct width and angle and the outer circumference of the drivers routed. What a dusty job!

Be sure to measure the drivers and cut the recess and driver cutouts the appropriate diameters to fit your project. Paint or veneer makes a difference.

Is that one of those crappy paper masks I see In a picture? If I could go back In time I would make sure I always used a high quality dust mask (I use an M3 4251). Sorry for the miserable post.

              The build's looking good though

                Thanks for the heads up!
Leaning more towards painting now and I hope I added enough to the diameters.
                We will see.

                  Today I finally made some progress again;

                  - Baffles are done. Tweeter holes finished, chamfered the driver holes etc.
                  - Panels for the mid tunnels cut and glued the tunnels together.

Nice build - looking good there!
How to you plan to do the curved side walls, and with what material?

The side walls I will do with bending triplex. Not sure if it is the proper translation but it are sheets of 3 or 6 mm and they bend very well.
3 layers of 6mm will give me approx. 18mm thick walls.
Some other builds have used it as well and it seems pretty straight forward to me.

This weekend I had some time again to continue with the build. Finished the back panels and glued the first speaker cabinet together. Looks good so far!
Found out the angle of the baffle does not quite matches the curved line of the cabinet, need to solve that first. It is to much for sanding so I probably will do it on the table saw or the like.
This week I hop I will finish the second cabinet.

1 question; would it be wise to add another rib between the 2 woofers for extra stiffness or is it OK like it is now with only braced behind the middle of the woofers?

                        Thanks in advance!

I think the bracing looks excellent. It should be a very stiff cabinet.

Hi all, today finally some time again to work on the speakers. Bought the bending triplex and cutted the sheets. Sheets are 7mm thick and will apply 3 layers each side.
Glued the first layer of wood to the cabinets, tomorrow hopefully I will trim the excess wood with the router and apply the second layer of wood.

This will take some time as I can do only 1 sheet at the time.

Would it be better to make an closed compartment for the tweeter or wouldn't that be of any use?

Yes, quite some progress to be honest. Did not find any time yet to update the thread.

                                Here we go:

Both cabinets finished, rounded off the edges and sanded them both.

Used a lot of filler to smoothen the edges. Unfortunately some edges are still visible. A member of another forum mentioned I should have used better quality MDF, not the type one can get in the hardware store usually.
Good tip for mu next build then. :P

I used 3 layers of primer, 4 layers of paint and 3 layers of laquer.

All in all the result is quite good and the defects caused by the filler etc. are hardly noticable.

I used a felt roller and some good quality Paint. At first i wanted to spray paint them but that process is less forgiving especially given the fact surface was not completely spotless to start with.
Allen in all quite happy with the end result.

I have been offline for a while due to work obligations and some rebuilding in my home.
Speakers are finished also for a while and the sound is really good! My old Dali's are nothing compared to these backbreakers.
Below some pictures of the filters and mounting in the cabinets.

You chose quite a challenging type of enclosure for DIY, but the result is very nice indeed. All these sepaker projects with curved sides makes me itch to try the same... but not this year probably.
Thanks for sharing the build pics!

They where more away from the wall (30cm) and now they are a bit over 20cm from the wall and I hear no difference. It is hard to have them more in the room due to the shape of the room and the distance to the couch.
When my NAD is back from repair i will hook up the htpc again and start some measurements with REW. I have not done that yet and I assume there is a some of room for improvement. My living room is crap acousticwise anyway because one speaker has to be in the corner and ceilings are quite high. For this reason the port is in the front instead of the back or bottom.
