    Speaker placement

I am trying to decide between a 6.1 and a 7.1 speaker set up in my new room. I have the amplification and speakers to do either so that's not the issue...what is the issue is speaker placement for both set ups. I have a door on my back wall which is right in the way if I were to set up two rear speakers properly for 7.1. I could mount a single rear centre right beside the door though for 6.1 leaving the rears on the side walls someplace (either b/t the two rows of seating or behing the last row) If I go 7.1 I'd have two sides between the two rows of seating and the two back speakers would be placed in the corners at the back of the room angled towards the sweet spot...so basically what I'm asking is which setup would you do? Here's a shot of the back of the room with the two proposed speakers placement...unfortunatly the door was open when I took this picture so you'll have to imagine the door is closed. There's actually plenty of room behind the door for the speaker to be placed facing the seats.

Looking at the placement you have outlined for both steups, I think that you would gain more from the 7.1. I say this because, you will have the coner rears in the same spot regardless. And in either configuration, they will be angled towards the seating area. So they shoud image very well for that phantom rear. With the depth of your room, the side speakers should fill in that seamlees pan that we all strive for.

Well, that's my take on it.

What will your Sony Pre/pro support? Will you be upgrading to a pre/pro that requires a 7.1 speaker setup?

Personally I don’t think I would work to hard for a 6.1 system, just not enough sources to justify the extra expense. So given your choices I would go 7.1.

But if not limited, I like a great 5.1 system. But that’s me!

7.1 Andrew...I believe you will get the largest sound field that way. With the XS surround on the 1066 you'll get the most "options" that way....IMHO of course. So if you have 7 speakers, why put one in storage?

            7.1 Speaker Placement ?
            by Stoopalini
Now that I have enough speakers for 7.1, I would like some advice on where to place them.

I now have a NHT Supercenter, 4 NHT Superone's, a home built 12" Shiva sonosub, and 2 Sound Dynamic RTS-1's.

I'd like to know the optimal placement of these speakers in my room....

            Speaker Placement question
            by sikoniko
Ok, as you may have read before, I am planning for my new apartment in march. My fiance wanted to do the design of the rooms, so I gave it to her, but first I made her read a couple articles on home theater so she would understand why I need things in certain places. It ended up being a great exercise...

Speaker placement in new HT room
            by opt-e
I will be moving into a new place in the middle of November. I have a decent sized room in the fully finished basement of which I can use to setup my home theatre system, which will be running in 2.1 mode. I've got a 42" plasma, a pair of Nat P's and a pair of 12" Rhythmik subs.

System calibration / Speaker placement question
            by number17
Hey guys, I got a quick question on audio system calibration / speaker placement.

I connected the new 5.1 JM Labs Chrous speakers to my system which includes LG 7832 (Zenith 318) DVD player, Toshiba 57HX83 TV and Marantz 5300 receiver.

It's been ~ 2-3 weeks and the speakers...

Need Help with some sort of Soundproofing Around Door
            by Speaker_King
I have a problem with sound being traped right around where my door is, because of the way the room is made. The sound is traped in that area and goes right through the door. Iv thought about taking the trim of the door frame, so the wall is flush with the door, and putting sound board all around it....
