    7.1 Speaker Placement ?

Now that I have enough speakers for 7.1, I would like some advice on where to place them.

I now have a NHT Supercenter, 4 NHT Superone's, a home built 12" Shiva sonosub, and 2 Sound Dynamic RTS-1's.

I'd like to know the optimal placement of these speakers in my room. The RTS1's seem like they would do best mounted on the side walls, but should they be behind, in front of, or even with the seating position? Here is a pic of the Sound Dynamics:

And here is a rough outline of what my room looks like:

The living room has 14' ceilings, with the vault running from the entertainment center back to the kitchen. The kitchen, hallway, office, etc ... have 9' ceilings.

Right now, the rear speakers are sitting on shelves about 10' up on the back wall. I placed an icon to the sides where I'm thinking of putting the Sound Dynamic speakers. There's enough wall space above the french door and window to mount them. Would this be the surround location, and the ones on the rear wall be the surround back location?

Thanks for any input, once I figure this out, then comes the fun of running 2 more sets of wires!

    Thomas.

I think your mounting plan looks good.

Sub Placement and multiple subs (graphs)
      by vinceb
After reconnecting my HE15 I have done a little experimentation with different placements and found that there is a lot to gain in my room from separating the subs. I found good interesting information on the web, specifically Nousaine's work on multiple subs and even better the Harman paper. My...

I finally got my speakers and while I'm still shopping for a used amp (anybody who spots a marantz 5400, denon 2803 / 1804 or Yamaha RX-V1400 at ~ Cdn$500-700 I appreciate if you can let me know!) I have a dilemma with the placement of speakers in my room.

      Since I don't have a picture...

      Hi all,
I was hoping you could help me with speaker placement. I have just bought a pair of B&W 683's and set them up either side of my TV facing the couch, however they are a bit on the large side both physically and aesthetically (wrt to the room layout), although we may learn to live with...

      NHT VT-3 Questions
      by tonygeno
      First time poster. (Thank-you, Ricky.)

I'm considering purchasing the VT-3 system and had a few questions:

      1) Do you need a sub with the system or will the internal subs hit THX levels in a 2500 cubic foot room? If you use a separate sub, how do you set the processor to...

      Speaker placement
      by Andrew Pratt
I am trying to decide between a 6.1 and a 7.1 speaker set up in my new room. I have the amplification and speakers to do either so that's not the issue...what is the issue is speaker placement for both set ups. I have a door on my back wall which is right in the way if I were to set up two rear speakers...
