Speaker placement in new HT room

I will be moving into a new place in the middle of November. I have a decent sized room in the fully finished basement of which I can use to setup my home theatre system, which will be running in 2.1 mode. I've got a 42" plasma, a pair of Nat P's and a pair of 12" Rhythmik subs.

The entire room is roughly 21' x 16', however due to a sliding door on the south wall and a closet on the north wall, only about 16' x 9' of this is usable for my system. On the east wall there is a 6' wide fireplace which extends at least a foot into the room. There is also a 3' deep 'nook' in north east corner of the room.

My current idea is to setup the system on the north wall, in front of the nook. Inside the nook I'd like to setup floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, with the pair of subs in front of that. Primary seating will be about 10' away from the screen along the south wall. Obviously this setup is far from ideal for many reasons, however I can't think of any better way to do it.

Does anyone have any better ideas? I would also like to do some simple, non-intrusive wall treatment (I'm thinking flat panels of 703).

You're not going to like this but.....

Put the bar in the nook...

Place the plasma on the mantle.

Better yet go with a projection TV, place a pull down screen above the fireplace.

In either instance put the speakers on either side of the fireplace.

I had the exact same thought. The pictures I posted are of the current owner's setup. It's beyond me why someone with the money and will to spend a pretty penny on B&W 803's didn't build a more ideal room. Ah well, such is life and you gotta deal with what you have.

Unfortunately, the fireplace is going to be needed for heating in the winter months and I won't be able to put the plasma on the mantle. The projector idea is a good one, though I was trying to avoid more big purchases on the system for now. I suppose I'll have to deal with my less than perfect setup for the time being.

        Hi all

I registered here to share my results with existing builders and future builders. The Statement 2s are great. Thanks to Jim and Curt for making this design available. Excellent results.

My build is fairly close to the build plan. The only deviations were adding an additional...

How far do you have them from the back wall?

I'm wondering how far everyone has their speakers from the back wall? By this
I mean from the back of the speaker to the wall. My room has a 6 inch ledge around it that is just above the top of my 804S. I currently have them 16 inches from the outside of the ledge or a total of 22 inches...
