Proxima 5800 sound input problem

I am trying to (successfully) connect an IBM i series laptop to a proxima 5800 projector. I can bring up the picture, but not the sound.

To transfer sound, I am using a Y-Adapter Audio Cable that I purchased at Radio Shack.

I used headphones to make certain that the laptop was producing sound. It is, so that's not the problem.

Any ideas?

Are you trying to connect the sound output from the laptop to the projector? Are you sure the projector has speakers built in? I'm not familiar with that Proxima model. You might try using another signal source, to test that it isn't a problem with your cables. Also, be sure you have the right type of audio cable- stereo, judging from the spec sheet on the 5800. A mono cable may short the output.
