Proxima DP5900 leaking liquid from optics?

I was just given a Proxima DP5900 because the screen is a fuzzy blue and has what looks like a bite taken out of the top of the image (projector was mounted on a ceiling). I took the top cover off and found a sticky liquid inside had leaked out of part of the optics between the LCDs and the front lens assy.
I can't find any info on the web about any kind of liquid (oil?) used in the lens assy.
I found that whatever it is affects all three colors so it's after the LCD assy. It also gets a burned in image of the menu that slowly fades when the menu is turned off.

Any ideas on what this is and how to fix it would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

ps: I just found this site and it has great info and suggestions from forum members.
