    3:10 To Yuma

Watched it on Bluray last night. Beautiful picture with jaw-dropping detail especially in the outdoor scenes. The story line is the same as the 1957 released original where Glen Ford played Wade the outlaw and Van Heflin was Dan the poor rancher who takes on the job of escorting Wade to the 3:10 train to Yuma prison. The remake has Russell Crowe as Wade and Christian Bale as Dan. But the remake centers more on character and though the storyline is the same, the road to the conclusion is quite different and I have to say I liked the remake better. Man, if this one doesn't bring us more westerns, I don't know what will.

    A huge :T

      George,

I rented it in SD since I don't have an HD player yet. I will watch it this weekend.

Did you finally pull the trigger on a Bluray player? What did you get and how do you like it? Since Warner went with Bluray I think the war could come to end real soon.

I know I am not George, but I am willing to bet just like him, the Warner info is what pushed me over the edge. I am curious to what his thoughts are on BR as I just switched myself. I love it and cant wait to get a few more discs!

I am sporting a PS3 and 310 is on the list to buy before the weekend is up!Thanks for the review George, I was waiting to here about it.

Yeah I went with the Panasonic DMP BD30 Bluray player. I was going to add a Tosh HD DVD to the mix but I have decided hold off on that. If either Paramount or Universal make the move to Blu, then it's game over for sure, if it isn't over already.

So far, I've watched WAR, BLACKHAWK DOWN, TERMINATOR 2 and 3:10. All were quite spectacular...especially Terminator 2. Man, the picture blew my mind. I've also watched a couple of standard def dvds to check out the upconversion of the Panny and I was quite surprised. They looked almost hi-def. And though some have said the upconverting of the Panny leaves a little to be desired, I found it did a better job than my Benq W10000 with Faroudja. I am quite happy with my purchase.

Congratulations on your new gear, George.

Just finished the movie. What a great Western and I feel it's one of Russell Crowe's finest acting performances, which really is quite a statement considering his portfolio. But, just the nuances of his eyes alone had me floored. One of those actors who can express so much with just a look or even the slightest smile.

I'm making my daughter's boyfriend watch it tomorrow. A couple of months back, when they were going through my DVD's looking for something to watch, I suggested a Western. He refused. Never saw a Western. Never wanted to see one. I said, just sit down a minute and watch the first 10 minutes of Once Upon a Time in the West. After resisting, he agreed. After watching the beginning of the film, he took it and watched the rest right away.

I know he's a lot bigger and younger than I am, but he better watch this tomorrow or else. :a>

It is definitely one helluva film, Keith. The fact that it did so well at the boxoffice holds out hope that the studios will take a chance on making some more westerns. Man, would that ever please an old man... :P

Saw it, even some of the scenes match to the original 1957 movie. But overall a good one. :T

Pretty good film in my opinion, nice to see a good western. Had to watch it in the bedroom as the daughter and friend we occupying the living room - kitchen so i can comment to much on the sound and image quality. My only critique would be the last 20 or so minutes... my comments would give away too much for those who haven't seen it.

Now compare this movie 3:10 to Yuma to (what I consider) that drivel that was supposed to be some sort of Lonesome Dove - Commanche Moon. One was a pretty top notch western and the other was 110% crud. Granted Lonesome Dove - Commanche Moon was TV, but it had some decent people in it and all. Really, compare the two and there is no comparison and the fact it was TV can't be an excuse for some like that.

Just watched this earlier today (had a free afternoon--a rarity). It wasn't in Blu-ray but it still looked great. This will definitely be added to my collection when I go "Blu".

They're similar but the story takes a different road here and there, and at the end in particular. Character development is much better in the remake.

3:10 To Yuma, What A Fantastic Film !

                                Hello George,

Last night my Dad and I watched 3:10 To Yuma on DVD. Both of us have already watched at the cinema but as the film was so goood! I had to buy it. Watching the film for a second time you really begin to appreciate the acting, dialogue and script of such a fantastic movie. I have have also seen the original, and as you know is not in the same class as this film.

Maybe after this film, do you think Westerns are now on the up again?

                                Brilliant film.

                                All the best

I had hoped that after Kevin Costner brought us another good western in Open Range, but since then there's only been a couple of note: Seraphim Falls and 3:10 To Yuma. But I have my fingers crossed that more will come.

Since the end of their heyday in the 70s, the Western tends to run in short cycles. There'll be two or three released and then nothing for a while.

I just picked up 3:10 to Yuma on blu-ray (hadn't seen the movie at all). I must say I was impressed. Great movie, true to the old western feel but still with a modern movie feel at the same time. It was interesting to see Crowe and Bale take roles that weren't quite their norm (with Crowe playing the "villian" and Bale playing a somewhat physically/mentally weak main character). I also thought Ben Foster was pretty awesome as the ruthless second in command of the gang. Overall a very good flick, and an awesome blu-ray. :T

I really liked this movie, I saw it in the theater and then watched it with my friend on SD-DVD. The second viewing was as good as the first, if not better. I bought it on blu-ray once it went on sale, and the picture and audio are light years ahead of the SD-DVD. There really is a huge difference, where in my experience normally the difference between SD-DVD / HD isn't as huge as this was.

I definitely recommend this movie, and if you have blu-ray you're in for an A/V treat as well.

So I ended up watching this when it came out. A buddy brought it over on DVD and I really enjoyed the movie.

Well this week I finally picked it up on BR. What makes my BR experience all that better is just this week I finally got my new reciever with HD decoding and I now i have a full 7.1 (well 7.2) setup in the room. That added with the new Sony 120hz 52" LCD is making all my "old" BR's new again, it was like going from VHS to DVD, or DVD to BR, well BR to BR with 120hz and HD audio... :E

I watched 3:10 again for the first time on BR last night and WOW!!
Not only was the picture awesome but the sound!!

What a great movie, the story, the action everything about it. However there was 1 part that made the GF cry. :x If you have seen it, I am sure you know what part it was. Also my least favorite.

Like mentioned already, it was better the second time around! I look forward to watching it again.

Excellent film :T I second the eye candy comments and add that that writing and acting were stellar as well. Wish we got to see more movies of this calibre :T

Watched this last night on Blu-ray. Man, I love this movie!
Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, the gorgeous scenery, the sound, the storyline, the authenticity, all are magnificent. Even if you're not normally a western fan, I defy anyone not to be thoroughly impressed and entertained!

FYI: This is the remake to a 1965 Jimmy Stewart movie which is also available now for $10.

Dennis Quaid is a pilot sent to Mongolia to do an evacuation. The plane crashes and the story pretty much revolves around their rescue or attempts to rescue themselves. The success of this is going...

Dear God, another remake. Anyway, the original Straw Dogs was directed by Sam Peckinpah and starred Dustin Hoffman. It was pretty violent and quite disturbing when I first saw it. But I like Peckinpah's work and got over the disturbing stuff. I have it in my dvd collection and have watched it several...

The remake has pretty much the same storyline as the original ( family stuck in the desert and attacked by strange beings) but with a little embellishment. What I didn't like about the remake was the excessive gore. Anyway, I just rented it to see how it compared to the original ( which I have in my...

In the original 1984 release, we had a nasty Rutger Hauer as the tormentor and C. Thomas Howell as the tormented. Jennifer Jason Leigh played the girl who eventually sympathizes with Howell's plight and ends up paying a high price. This was pretty good for its time and I feel it should have been left...

Bosworth's ex ( Alexander Skarsgard ) hasn't forgotten the good times with Kate and wants some more and thus the trouble begins and ends with a fierce battle between Marsden and Skarsgard and his cronies,...
