    Straw Dogs ... the remake

A young couple ( James Marsden and Kate Bosworth ) return to Bosworth's home town in the deep south. Bosworth's ex ( Alexander Skarsgard ) hasn't forgotten the good times with Kate and wants some more and thus the trouble begins and ends with a fierce battle between Marsden and Skarsgard and his cronies, as Marsden goes to the limit to defend his castle.

The remake, starring Dustin Hoffman and Susan George as the couple under attack, was much better. But then, Rod Lurie is no Sam Peckinpah and James Marsden is no Dustin Hoffman. Still, Lurie's version of Straw Dogs would probably go over well with anyone unfamiliar with the original. I didn't mind it but it will make me appreciate the original even more the next time I feel like watching it. Either way, whether you watch the orginial or the remake, you will be in store for a violent blood fest.

        Straw Dogs remake
        by George Bellefontaine
Dear God, another remake. Anyway, the original Straw Dogs was directed by Sam Peckinpah and starred Dustin Hoffman. It was pretty violent and quite disturbing when I first saw it. But I like Peckinpah's work and got over the disturbing stuff. I have it in my dvd collection and have watched it several...

Killer Elite not a remake of ...
        by George Bellefontaine
...the 1975 Peckinpah film ( THE Killer Elite ) that starred James Caan and Robert Duval. This one is based on the 1991 novel entitled The Feather Men and is supposedly a true story. True or not, it is an entertaining action flick starring Jason Statham and Robert Dinero as mercenaries and Clive Owen...

FYI: This is the remake to a 1965 Jimmy Stewart movie which is also available now for $10.

Dennis Quaid is a pilot sent to Mongolia to do an evacuation. The plane crashes and the story pretty much revolves around their rescue or attempts to rescue themselves. The success of this is going...

The Hills Have Eyes the remake
        by George Bellefontaine
The remake has pretty much the same storyline as the original ( family stuck in the desert and attacked by strange beings) but with a little embellishment. What I didn't like about the remake was the excessive gore. Anyway, I just rented it to see how it compared to the original ( which I have in my...
