Redbook CD performance on Rotel DVD players

Has anyone had a chance to do any serious side by side redbook CD playback comparisons between Rotel's CD players and Rotel's DVD players?

Just curious if the performance of the CD player is significant enough to merit a dedicated CD player anymore.

I seem to remember someone comparing the two way back when though it might not have been currently available players if it was that long ago... Try doing a search and see what you come up with.

Otherwise I seem to remember something along the lines of the DVD player being better than most mass market DVD players for Redbook but not quite as good as Rotels CD player. Don't hold me to that though It would seem to make sense though. So the DVD player could be a good compromise if you only want one player but otherwise you'd be better off with the dedicted CD unit or perhaps an upsampling DAC.

Jon et al. What would you think are the differences sonically between say the NS500V SACD/DVD player and the 670 CD only player? Also there are obvious differences in redbook players depending on which DAC's they have on board...are there the same differences in DAC's with SACD players..ie how similar...

      RDV-1050 DVD Player
      by Raezzy
      Hi All
      My first post BTW.

I am seriously considering buying an RDV-1050 DVD today - $999 Aus.
I will be using this player in a dual role - as a CD, as well as a DVD player.
DVD-a and SACD do not interest me, so i dont mind SACD not being an option on this player....

      Tommy: SACD or DVD-A

      HI,

I just ordered one of these Universal players (Samsung DVD-HD841). I am an old Who fan. I even saw the first American performance of Tommy at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit in 1969. However, I'm not interested in getting two new copies of this right off the bat.
