    Protection probs 1095

    Hi,

Well i am having a very odd problem with my 1095.

Whenever the amp is on for some hours, dunnot know how long for sure, the protection of my left front and surround speaker are kicking in.

I dunnot misabuse the amp with playing at high volumes at least no longer then max 2 hours at almost reference volume watching a movie.

I think you are going to say it is running hot........thought off that too.... but the amp is allready 2 years in the exact same spot as where it is now. When i though the amp it is not hot at all. I guess my 1098 is getting hotter...sometimes my GF too but that is not the problem .

Somebody ever experienced the same problems...or does somebody know how too fix them??

    Thanx in advance.

Hmm it does sound like heat if it takes a while to act up. the next time you're watching a movie try having a fan blow air over the amp and see if it still acts up...that should let you know if its a heat issue or not.

      Sando,

I'm having the exact same problem. I suspect that it's not heat related as my 1095 sits atop an audio rack (open air all around). My 1095 is barely warm when it trips into protection mode (left front & left rear). Sometimes not only do the left front & rear trip but the center channel trips as well. My RMB 1095 and RSP1068 are plugged directly into the wall.

      Are you using 12v triggers?

I have been dealing with my dealer on this issue. No response as of yet. -gh

I have noticed something similar. When i switch off the 1095 the main left and left surround protections just lights for a second. No problems, howewer, during a normal playback, even at high volumes.

I used to have this problem but mine was definately heat related. The Amp was very hot! I put a couple of big computer fans on the top grill with a rely hooked into the 12v trigger. I have had no problems ever since.

Get it checked out. My 1095 runs cool even after a good workout.

My 1 year old 1095 just started having the same problem last night. Might work for 5 minutes, might work for 2 hours. The left front and rear (single protection circuit) will kick on. This morning after the wife left I noticed that BOTH sides had kicked on. The 1095 was definately hotter than normal with very moderate levels. I'll still play around with removing each speaker just to check, but so far it sounds like the same problem.

It is not 'heat' related in that it gets too hot normally, but possible some failure making it get too hot. This is my 3rd 1095 in the same spot with a whole coat closet for breathing room and two fans exhausting the heat out.

Well did some checking on the problem.

The Amp does not get hot!! I did not move the amp for 2 years so it would be strange that it all of a sudden after 2 years is running hot.

I removed all cables on the left side....protection still kicking in.

Contacted Rotel Distributor in the Netherlands directly and asked him what to check more......nothing probably intern amp problem..... i have to bring it to service point so i hope it will be fixed soon.

I will keep u folks posted.

Thanx for replying........so it seems i am not the only one with this problem.

Protection Lights at Turn off is normal!

                  Loctus2K,

I have noticed something similar. When i switch off the 1095 the main left and left surround protections just lights for a second. No problems, however, during a normal playback, even at high volumes.
Just for reassurance, on the RB-1095 (and other 10 series amps) it is normal for the protection lights to light for a few seconds and gradually fade out on turn off (especially by trigger). Some of the Rotel manuals say this, others don't...

It is when they come on during normal use that you have a problem (heat, cable / speaker short, or amplifier problem). Often the circuitry coming on is the first sign of an internal problem with the amp (e.g. One Power Transistor going out of spec). So it comes on during normal use and the amp is not hot, -straight to service1

                  Geoff

Well I received and installed my replacement 1095.. It's only got a couple hrs on it so far - and so far so good. Time will tell. I really hope it's not another problem (house electrical). -gh

Well a new amp didn't fix the prob.. Moving to a dedicated outlet.. See if that fixes the problem. Dang, this is painful. -gh

                        Hamiltong,

Is it the same left side that is going into protection?

If so, at the problem remains with a new amp, this would normally be speaker cable or something specific to the left side (e.g. poor ventilation on that side only).

Food for thought for you... We'd be very interested to find out what it is when you do...

                        Geoff

It's not consistent.. Left side, right side & both sides.. I don't think I've ever seen the center go into protection. The amp sits atop an open rack - nothing above it and a good foot of space on either left or right side. Tonight it tripped both left and right - the amp was not even warm. I've redone all my speaker wires (unhooked and reconnected - all biwired).

I think my next step is to try a dedicated circuit..

Currently everything in the audio/video system runs off the same 15amp breaker.. 61inch TV, powered sub, preamp, power amp, xbox & satellite receiver. I don't use any electrical conditioners or stabilizers. Amp, preamp and sub are plugged directly into the wall. Everything else is off a $20 power bar.

I really don't know what is going on. -gh

                            Hamiltong,

Dedicated circuit and a good mains filter are both very good ideas.

For a (presumably) 110V set-up you have too much draw on the one 15amp outlet so may be getting a current / voltage drop... I'd get your electrition to run two new lines, one for the amps and one for the rest of the equipment.

You could also be getting some spikes or surges that trigger the protection (less likely given the shared power) but a good mains filter always helps protect your equipment and will often clean up the sound.

Well i got my RMB-1095 back and I sure missed it .

Service point told me that the thermal sensor was broke. It thought that the amp would get hot so he slammed in protection.

Haven't tested the amp yet but i hope the problem is fixed.

I have my 1095 on the very top of my rack and had some heat issues. The amp would go into protection pretty easily.

What I did was put a couple of 6" computer fans on top and tied them into a rely and a 12v trigger. This has deduced the heat significantly!
