Anyone know if the newer RR-1050 remote control will clone the older RR-969? 1050 manual says to only clone another 1050, but thought I'd ask here.

I am just wondering how often most members change the battery on their RR969. I have this remote since the end of December and it is on its third set of AAAs already! The batteries on my TV, VCR, DVD remotes usually does not require changing for over a year or even two. I still use the other remotes... -
Recently, my RR1050 remote has displayed "FRQ DIR" and no buttons work. I tried pressing the reset, preload and clear buttons, but only the reset seems to do anything. The LCD screen flashes, but the same message keeps coming up. Has anyone encountered this? Any suggestions?
