RR-1050 (Remote for RSP1068) Display Problem

Just yesterday my RR-1050 remote for my RSP-1068 started acting up.

When editing a label for a function on the remote, various characters on the remote display will cause other items to appear faintly (like the learn and edit icons) or faint lines through the main characters to appear on the display. Almost like a solar powered calculator acts up when it doesn't have enough sunlight.

This also occurs for set items that are more than 6 characters (including spaces) like "VIDEO 1"



I tried changing the batteries to brand new ones and pressing the reset button on the remote but neither helped.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Or, does anyone know how to reset the remote to factory defaults? The remote still operates fine, it's just the display that has gone crazy.

You have done all the things I would have recommended to do. If the remote works otherwise, and it doesn't give you heartburn to have funny characters, just keep it till it quits. The other option is to get a warranty replacement or buy another one if the warranty expired. SOrry! I had issues with the remote of my 1068 too, it actually was DOA.

That is a good question, I don't know for sure but I would guess so. Personally I would not use a universal remote, the Rotel remote can control every facet of the pre, in fact its an essential part of the control system. With a universal trying to use the system settings would be a nightmare if at all possible. :W

Pretty much all recent remotes (1050,1060, 969..) can control all the 10 series units.

Not sure on the Harmony's price.

@WI Rotel: I like too the "original" remote. I have 5 remote-control (plasma,dvd,BD,HD,PS3,Rotel) wow...

My Rotel rr1050 has the glass - plastic with a crack but it works ..
all very well but that crack ... :M (makes me angry :M )

So much more expensive a new RR1050 or RR1060 (if guide also 1068)
that go with the logitech 885/895! (approx $170 .- instead of $380.- listprice)

Omar,

I have the Harmony 785 and have played with a friends Harmony 1000. The only drawback of the 1000 is that you tend to have to look at it to use it. Whereas the 785 you use more like a normal remote - i.e. point and aim.

I keep the Rotel remote in a drawer when I need it but to be honest I can do most things in the RSP-1098 / RVE-1060 through the remote and the menus.

my freind /work by B&W Switzerland say me: buy a Philips Pronto (9400-9600)
is much better as the Harmony. Nut is to much expensive!

A new RR1060 in Switzerlnad is available at hcf. 240.- = $220 ca.!!!!

With the rr1060 you can drive all the 10 serie! -> Kevin 100% right


the harmony 1000 is aound $ 440.- -< the philips 9600 $ 1200!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Rotel and a hamony 895/885 is not a bad idea.
I don't have a special request (play,stop,rw,ffw,,....)

---> I keep the Rotel remote in a drawer when I need it but to be honest I can do most things in the RSP-1098 / RVE-1060 through the remote and the menus. :T :T :T
