What about Windows Media Audio ?

    Hello,

As the new DVD with WM9 High Definition are just arrived, or will arrived, depending on the country you are living on, I was wondering if Rotel's preamplifier can be upgraded to decode this particular format, or not.

Of course all futures WM9HD DVD players will be able to decode WMA and it will always be possible to have it throught the analog input, but I won't be against a digital connection.

I haven't read anything about that in the V4.0 Wish List.

    Any idea ?

Sounds like Aussie Geoff needs to have a gander at your post I hadn't thought of that but it's definitely a good point.

I think we'll have to wait until the chip makers like Cirus can build a chip with enough processing power to decode these signal. To do it in a PC right now you need a really fast CPU (P4 2.8Ghz or there abouts) so its not likely something that we'll see available as an upgrade to existing processors...that said I guess anything's possible but I just don't see it as being likely just yet.

        Rotel Rsp-1098 has a CS49400 cirrus chip.

The next chip from Cirrus, the CS49500 is available for quite some time now and can decode WMA9. I don't know if the CS49400 has enough power to do it.

        Here's a link :

          DD-HD and DTS-HD : Will pre-pro's decode them?
          by grit
Someone brought an interesting point to my attention the other day. Digital rights management with respect to audio. HDMI exists almost only because someone became concerned that DVI lacked the ability to control content, and allowed users to make a perfect 1:1 copy of digital video material.

          by Patrick Sun
For those interested in a DVD player that can be modded for multi-region play and already possesses PAL/NTSC conversion/playback, there is a mod chip hack for the JVC XV-S60/62/65 DVD player.

I obtained the mod chip from a guy who mainly hangs around the AVS forum (go there and do a...

Check out the news release below - if its as good as being touted then its sure to blow away anything out there even the highly touted new Arcam. Only problem is the price - article below says £2499.99 in the UK (does that translate into $4,500 USD?).

Can Rotel receivers decode AM stereo?
          by padlnjones
          from the Rotel FAQ:

          "AM STEREO:
For an AM radio station to be stereo, it must use the required industry standard Motorola C-Quam system. Most AM stations continue to broadcast in mono only. To receive it, your car or home receiver must have the ability to decode a stereo AM...
