    A Work in Progress

    PewterTA,

Thanks for the suggestion, appreciate that, I deffinitly give that a go, I'll do what ever it takes to the best sound possible. I want to build a cabinet the covers the wall and have the speakers flush with the cabinet. Would that muffle the sound or would you recommend leave the speakers open air?

The most dreaded words in the audio world: HT cabinet...

If you're truly interested in the best sound possible, ditch any thoughts of a cabinet... speakers perform best in a free space with a solid wall a few feet to their rear... a cabinet necessarily inhibits their performance... it's like putting a box inside yet another box.

You've got a nice setup -- don't blow it with a cabinet... too many people decorate the room first with a big unwieldy HT cabinet - with a nice wood finish! - and then try to pick and choose audio components to cram in it... with audio performance that ranges from subpar to unlistenable.

Bring the speakers out as suggested... and if the wall needs aesthetic work -- paint it.

Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring
production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.

I agree with GD. The only thing I'd go for is a bigger stand for your center to house all your components, or maybe get a nice vertical rack to hold all your componets off to the right/left side... then get a true center stand... I don't know how your room is set up to allow for something like that.

If neither of those work, I'd get wood that would match your current stand...and make a small shelf for the center to sit on (raising it up a couple inches) to fit the RT-1080 and your Cable box (that's it on the floor right?) in there, and I think it would look awesome that way.

Made a few changes since my post from...last oct or so. No new rotel, thats next but did make one big purchase, a new TV, and went to a High Def terminal and a Denon 2200 ( just til the format wars settle). I also added Silvercat interconnects :T

Now I gotta focus on Speaker cables and rear speakers and likely a 1080. So as it sits now.

                  Hitachi Ultravision Cineform 60VS810
                  Rotel 1068
                  Rotel 1075
                  Denon 2200
                  B&W 604 S3's
                  B&W LCR600
                  Signet SP100 15" Sub
                  Mission 8" Sub
Rears that are so poor I won't even reference them

Just to restate what we all think and plug all the time in this forum, I love My Rotel's! TV aint 1/2 bad either

It's LCD RPTV. List price is kinda painful, with stand it was about $6700cdn list. OUt of respect for mty Dealer I won't say what I did get it for, but suffice it to say there is some room in this for sure

                            Toshiba

It is the 65H14. The rebadged version of the 65H83 which I bought at costco. It has a few differences from the original model but is basically the same. It still has the protective cover on it which I believe is not non-reflective. I leave it on for safety.

But The reflective screen off gives a much beter image.

                                          Hi all,

I've been lurking about in this Forum for ages - drooling and dreaming over all of your beautiful Rotel equipment. Well guess what - I have finally gotten my first peice of Rotel equipment! It's a RSP1068. Huge improvements over my Yamaha receiver.

EDIT: I'm using 6 channels of gainclone amplification made by yours truly and Aussie made Legend speakers. Photo of the amps attached.

Claude D, is that the new paint you just did? If so, looks really good! I like the whole setup. Is your center channel on the sub (little bit dark to tell)...?

Rnoble, congrats on the 1068, I went from the Yamaha (Rx-v1400) to the 1098 and agree it's a nice improvement. Though I realize how well the yamaha did, as I'm still having a tough time getting rid of it... Since you got the 1068, what are you using for an amp, as well as what speakers are you using?

                                                Rotel and bw gear

I made the rack and tv stand a couple years ago. A copy of the Salamander rack but with real mahogony wood, stain to complement it, and a nice shape design to the wood. Total cost was around 100 for you diy's.

Now please don't laugh at my center which is almost as big as the tv ops: I have always been a stiff when it comes to the TV.

My next purchase is a widescreen and either the triple rack 30'' salamander or a diy copy ill do myself. That will enable me to have a better looking HT but what I got now does the job.

I'm looking to buy a Rotel/B&W stereo system for home, but meanwhile here is the surround system that I use at work . Yes, I'm lucky enough to work on a multichannel audio codec (low bitrate... ) so I got this kit to do listening tests. The M-Audio 1010 is a 8-in/8-out 24-bit 96kHz sound card that feeds the direct analog of the Rotel's receiver. This makes it possible to compare original versions of audio on the computer with coded ones (for A/B or Mushra tests). Oh, and forget the VHS on the 2nd pic, just needed to connect an old TV somehow to see the receiver's configuration screen somewhere...

Here is my setup, shelves are temp., waiting for glass shelves to relace them. Cabinet is DIY also, and still in production.

I'd be worried about reliability with that placement unless there's a fan hidden in there somewhere. The channel closest to the floor is probably running much hotter than the one on the 'top'.

I'd be worried about reliability with that placement unless there's a fan hidden in there somewhere. The channel closest to the floor is probably running much hotter than the one on the 'top'.
