    vcr DPL-II weirdness RSX-1065

Most of the time I watch TV from my TiVo or a DVD, but once in a while I dub something to VHS or watch an old source. My player is an older Panasonic S-VHS deck.

The decoded Dolby Pro-Logic audio is usually awful when it originates on the VCR. It's ultra-sensitive to any reverb on the voices, as when the actors are in a reflective room. Frequently the dialog completely vanishes from the center speaker under those conditions.

I can usually compensate a little by cranking the center channel up 5db, and cranking down the surrounds by 5db.

But it's annoying that it behaves so badly from a VHS source, and so nicely for TV or TiVo audio.

    Any comments?

If it's the same as my Panny Svhs deck, everytime it loses power it turns on the spatializer setting in the setup menu.. This is kind of a fake surround for two speakers, but it wreaks havoc going through prologic because most everything is out of phase a bit..

Go through the VCR setup and see if it's set to yes..

That's a good thought, but my deck doesn't have a spatializer mode. I double-checked the setup menu, and the only options are "hi-fi" and "normal". Hmmm ...

        Positioning equipment in rack
        by GregoriusM
I have a 5 shelf equipment rack (including top surface which I do not use for equipment - so in fact 4 useable shelves).

I virtually never touch the Denon 3300 receiver I have. However, the rest of my components - tape deck, cable receiver, dvd player, 5-cd changer, 2 - VCR's - are obviously...

        1098 Analog Audio Weirdness
        by skipm
        Hey Guys-

I have a JVC HM-DH30000H D-VHS VCR on Video 4 connected via component video 4, optical audio 2, and the analog audio/video 4 inputs. Everything works as expected when playing D-Theater HDTV video tapes (except for no video on the 1098 screen). The JVC will not pass an analog...

More 1068 weirdness: No Sub Signal (except when set to "max")
        by InTheRed
OK, more weirdness from my new 1068. I can't seem to get a subwoofer signal at all unless I set it to "max" under the speaker settings. Under the subwoofer settings everything is set to 0db and it's crossing over at 100hz (changing these seems to make no diiference).

        I know...

        Reccomendations on VCR's
        by toychris
I was wondering if any of you could give me a good reccomendation on a VCR. Is there any VCR's with component outputs that are reasonably priced? I am guessing that VCR's Video output is relatively low anyway, so s-video outputs would give about the highest quality of picture, right? I know that JVC...
