When the RC-1082 came out I compared it with the RC-1090 driving a friends RB-1090 Amp and, on his setup we liked the RC-1082 better... From memory it seemed just a layer cleaner / more spacious / more transparent sounding. But that was a few years ago now.. It will be interesting to hear others opinions.
I've regularly heard the RC-1082 and it remains a great value / high quality pre-amp. Generally newer build than the RC-1090 too...

I have owned both an personally I preferred the RC-1090, especially for vinyl reproduction. I felt the 1090 offered much better soundstaging and blacker backgrounds - I was using with a RB-1092 amp & Dynaudio 52SE speakers. I sold the RC-1082.Comment

New as in newer then all the 15 series equipment?
I have a little OCD. I can't have a 15 series piece and a 10 series piece. It won't match lol. So when I do upgrade it will be everything all at once. I'm weird that way. And Rotel NEEDS to make another RB-1090. I can't part with that baby. Unless of course I get some CA-M600's from Classé!

I presently have the RC1070 and like it very much. Have the chance to get the discontinued RC1090 at good price. Will I see an appreciable sonic improvement in that upgrsde? Or, would you wait for the upcoming RC1082 and would anyone know at this point if the upgrade will mean better sound? I hear... -
Several times recently I've experienced a sudden spike in volume from my system while listening at fairly low levels (volume knob at 8 o-clock position on preamp). I'm just listening, and suddenly the volume seems to jump to a maximum, louder than I ever listen at and making me fear for my speakers.... -

Last year we bought a RA-1062 integrated amplifier after comparing it (blind A/B) to a RC-1070/RB-1072 combo. We heard no difference with the B&W 804S speakers.
We heard now, that this might have had two reasons:

I received my Rotel RC1082 from my dealer couple months ago and everything looks fine.
The problem was that the volume knob stopped working and it wasn lit plus sometimes when I was powering on the preamp coupe inputs on the RC1082 were lit on on the listening... -

I just picked up a RC1090 from Audiogon, the unit is in excellent condition and sounds very nice. I had an RC1070 before which always seemed a bit bright to me, the RC1090 is very smooth.
Anyway the one small downer on the deal is that the seller failed to mention...
