I presently have the RC1070 and like it very much. Have the chance to get the discontinued RC1090 at good price. Will I see an appreciable sonic improvement in that upgrsde? Or, would you wait for the upcoming RC1082 and would anyone know at this point if the upgrade will mean better sound? I hear that the 1082 should hit the shelves around the lst of May. JNorth1178
Go from RC1070 to RC1090 or RC1082?

I have an RC-1070 too and I'm thinking about upgrading to an RC-1082. From the little information available on the RC-1082 it's supposed to be as good as, if not better than, the RC-1090. Rotel have said it's better, but they would, wouldn't they?
The thing I like about the RC-1082 is that it has bass and treble controls. This is important to me because I listen to a wide range of music, and some of it is not well recorded. When you've got a 1960's recording with too much treble and not enough bass, tone controls come in very handy. When you've got a good recording simply press the Tone button and bypass the tone control circuit completely.
The RC-1082 has a media player socket on the front too. This is handy if a friend visits with his iPod and wants to play you a new song. It won't be hi-fi quality but you'll get to hear the song without stuffing around sticking adapters into the back.
The RC-1082 is therefore a music lover's preamp in my opinion, and that suits me just fine.

IMHO, if you can get a RC-1090 for $700 or less that would be a buy that would be hard to pass up. I replaced my RC-1070 with a RC-1090 when I upgraded to a RB1092. I noticed an immediate improvement in soundstage plus I now have the option of using a MC cartridge with my Rega P5.- Bottom

Check out Kevin D's comments about the 1082 in this thread http://www.htguide.com/forum/showthread.php4?t=24207, specifically this comment:
RC-1082 analog preamp:
Performance close to or above the RC-1090. Plenty of inputs including a front analog jack for MP3 players. Unit on display did not have a HT passthrough but they believe they could have a solution before its release.
Would anyone with good contacts at Rotel like to comment?

The RC-1082 does not have an SSP passthrough. I just received the notice in the mail that they have them in stock in both colors and are shipping them now. With it came a single piece of lit and a good picture of the front and back. It doesn't look like it from the pictures and there is no mention of an SSP passthrough.

Actually I’m about to upgrade my setup for 1082. As I can see there is no difference about dist. s/n ratio between 1082 and old flagship 1090 regarding to spec. sheet.
I agreed with my local dealer to get 1082 for audio test with my setup as soon as they will get one. I’m going to make 1070 vs. 1082 contest. Then I will share my opinion at the forum.Andrzej- Bottom

by kitjvI had the opportunity yesterday to audition a pair of Paradigm Studio 100s with the Rotel RC1070/RB1070 preamp & power amp combination. My ears were very pleased. However, I am curious about the audible difference that the Rotel RC1082/RB1080 would make with these same speakers. Or maybe going with...-

by vifferboyHello
I just picked up a RC1090 from Audiogon, the unit is in excellent condition and sounds very nice. I had an RC1070 before which always seemed a bit bright to me, the RC1090 is very smooth.
Anyway the one small downer on the deal is that the seller failed to mention...-

by minerAnyone RC1090 users happy with the phono stage on the pre? I recently purchased a Rega P5, Exact2 cartridge and TTPSU (power supply unit) but have yet to hook up - need to rearrange. Just wanting some feedback on the quality of the phono stage. When I bought my first pre, RC1070, I bought because...-

by Hi-5hi all. i have a pair of BW 685. they sound wonderful and better than i expected. And, recently, i ordered a RB1080 and RC-1082 to replace my old receiver. ofcourse, they are far better than the receiver. But, i feel so guilty that i use a pair of $2100 pre/pro to power a pair of $600 speakers. ...-
