I have an RSP-985 (going on 12 years now!) and have never really had any issues with until now. I am connecting an Apple TV to it through the video 4 Optical connection. I like to use Pandora via my iTouch and Airplay the audio to the Apple TV, then to the 985 through the optical connection. However, lately the 985 locks up whenever the Apple TV is enabled and sending an audio signal. I have confirmed that it is the optical connection by removing and the lock-up issues goes away. Anyone have any similar experiences with this?

I've had just about every Rotel PrePro since the early 90s. RSP960, RSP980, RTC970, RTC965 etc., and many many different power amps. Got a used 985 from an auction site. Looks perfect but had a hum on all inputs, all sources, on mute etc. If it was on, there was a hum. Also there was an audio 'hiccup'- like a 1/2 sec pause in sound every few minutes. My setup worked perfectly with an RTC965, nothing changed but swapping the 965...19 December 2012, 02:11 Wednesday

My system contains B&W 2*804,HTM1,2*805 and 850 for sub.
My pre amp is a Rotel RSP-985 and RMB 985 poweramp.
From my knowing Rotel is no high end but gives a lot of value for its price.... -

I bought the RSP 985 a couple of weeks ago.Had some trouble in the beginning with it, but now everything is okay.I loaned a 1066 from a dealer to compare the 1066 vs 985 (have the RMB 1075).I calibrated it and then the listening begun.I listend to my favorite cd's that i know well.And they sounded awful...
