    RSP-1066 questions

    I plan to use a RSP-1066 strictly as a stereo pre-amp.Got a few questions:
1.) Are firmware updates still available for this model ? What is the last rev. number for these ? Currently at 2.2.6 . If these are available - where are they downloadable from and where is a list of what they do or fix?
2.) What are the slopes on the subwoofer outputs available when you run analog in ?
    Thanks for the help.

Looks like the last update was 2.30 released 10/31/2007, available from the link above.
Click on the "Rotel" icon, and then select the RSP-1066 from the drop down box.

    Release Notes:
    V2.29 to V2.30 October 31, 2007
Bug Fix (Critical): Improved memory backup software to resolve units losing memory when exposed to low AC line voltage (example: during power outages).
    V2.28 to V2.29 February 22, 2007
New Feature: Added support for RVE-1060 video scaler to enable the RVE-1060 to switch inputs automatically when the input is changed on the RSP-1066.
    V2.27 to V2.28 January 3, 2007
Bug Fix (Minor): Adjusted digital input sensing to accommodate new ROHS- compliant processor ICs.
    V2.26 to V2.27 August 16, 2005
Bug Fix (Minor): Improved memory backup software.

I have owned the RSP-1066 for over four years. It has served my meager requirements well functioning as a basic 4.0 surround processor for DVD & TV viewing.

However, its performance as an analog 2ch pre is mediocre at best. So much so that I use different dedicated 2ch pre amp integrated into my system for all my 2ch music listening.

Its LF management was also considered wanting, an issue that can be addressed by simple mods performed on the circuit board which are within the realm of DIY'ers with modest skill, & was remedied with the latter design of the RSP-1098 model.

If 2ch music is as much a priority for you as it is me, I would suggest one of Rotel’s 2ch pre’s. Even an older 9 series will out perform the RSP-1066 in this application.

      As always, JMHO, YMMV

          not bad at all !

Used strictly as a stereo pre-amp this is probably not a world beater - but dang it's sure not bad .Yah - it/s a little brighter than what I'm used to - but not aggressive at all - the only criticism I have is that in my set up there is not a trace of depth information to the stereo image - not when feeding it with a Benchmark DAC or a custom built (not by me) phono stage. Lovely placement r to L - but nothing projected front or back of the line of the speakers.DEAD quite - after the usual confusion I experience with any remote smarter than I am - the RR-1050 seems like a pretty nice remote and because of some hopefully short term medical problems - the remotes the thing for me.Dealer friend of mine had been sitting on this thing forever - finally did a deal that made it cheaper than anything I could buy in a remote control stereo pre-amp -weird huh?
Will do the updates once I've got one of my computer savy buddies to hold my hand - nice that the updates are still available on the Rotel website.

You can do WAY better for a 2ch preamp at that price. As a HT pre/pro, is it hard to beat at the price. For that cheap it would be hard to find a better processor. Just look for used RC-1070 used. MUCH better sound for 2ch analog. I know because I have a 1066 and used it as a stop gap between preamps in my 2ch setup. Very low quality analog section.

I also used it as a back up pre/pro while my 1069 was in the shop. Not bad but I am glad to have my 1069 back. I think I will hang onto it just in case I need a backup again.

When you're doin' better, shop ebay or somewhere as the 1050s can have problems. Mine went schizo after a year. PU'd a 1060 off ebay $85 shipped

                    hi Guys

I purchased the Pioneer 989 avis universal player today and have some questions on connecting it to my rotel rsp1066/rmb1075 system

Firstly, I know I need to get 6 Analog cables for my Multichannel output on the Pioneer 989 to the Multichannel inputs of the RSP....

                    hi,

I was looking about a pre-processor audiophile enough to drive a good-level 2ch final without forget the multi-channel chance. I had an offer for 1066, and the only thing I need to know is:

is there some different in pure 2ch mode between 1066 and 1068 when drive a...

There seems to be a few people asking questions about trying to improve on the 2ch from their 1055/1056, so here is mine.

                    by Ross Smith
I recently had my RSP 976 replaced with a new 1066 by the Rotel dealer, the 976 had a faulty DSP board.
Well in stereo and home cinema mode the the RSP 1066 sounds awesome much smoother and more open and detailed. In D/D mode I use to wish I had a cinema EQ button but with the 1066 theres no...
