I am under the impression that it is a proprietary wiring scheme and you will either need the Rotel cable or will need to DIY one.
Here is an HTGuide thread that explains it.
Kevin D (Moderator) would probably know if this is correct or maybe even where a Rotel cable could be sourced.

The cable part # is CB00004 and it can be ordered by contacting Rotel Technical Support at 978-664-2870.

First question, does this unit provide the verbose feedback that other Rotel units do? I'd love feedback on volume status, input selection etc.

I am trying to upgrade the Rotel RSP-1069 with the latest firmware obtained from Rotel.
I have the official cable from Rotel.
I am using Windows XP.
I have a serial port on the laptop.
I activated firmware upgrade in the rotel menu system.... -
I would like to share my 2nd upgrade experience with you so hopefully you would not run into the same issues I had. I have a Rotel RSX-1057; however, the issue described below would apply to any upgrade as it was not a Rotel problem.
