    extension cords

I just purchased the rotel rmb-1095. In doing so, I need to move some equipment to make more room. The cord on the rotel pre-amp isn't long enough, and the book says not to use extension cords. Not sure why, but wouldn't it be ok if I use a heavy gauge cord? The rotel's is 16 gauge, and I have a 16 gauge cord. Or better yet, anyone know if Rotel has a longer cord I could replace it with? :P

Any heavy guage extention cable will be OK, the Rotel cable is not "special".

Or you can just purchase a longer cable from many places on the net.

As you increase the distance a heavier gauge is better to reduce any loss from the extra distance... So try a 12 or 14 gauge cord if you need to go a much longer distance...

Very true. Those Tributaries cords I posted are 14 AWG and they have up to 12 ft lengths.

You could also build your own cables. I build all my power cables using this cable CryoMax III.

my dealer said ext cords are bad b/c of the break in the line. yes theirs nothing special about the rotel power cord just buy another longer one. keep it one solid line. but i was talking to him about this in regards to amplifiers not pre's so it may be different in your case

Thanks guys. I took the safe route, separated my amp and pre in different cabinets in order to avoid the cord issue entirely. Look at aftermarket but didn't see any 2-prong. Maybe it's there, but decided to be safe and I separated the two.

The 1095 has a nice long cord, yep 3 prong. The 1068 was shorter, and what caused the problem. Separating the two due to height limitations, I moved the 1095 because it had a longer cord, allowing the 1068 to stay closer to the power center. The 1068 I believe is 2-prong.

Yea I think my 1069 is 2 prong. I thought you wanted a replacement for your 1095. I am sure you could find some 2 prong replacements if you looked.

FWIW, you can use a 3 prong plug on any of the 2 prong products.

FWIW I have heard good things from others who have tried these.
It would be hard to make your own for less with the same quality components IMHO.

Im putting my pioneer plasma 5050HD on / in the wall, speakers in the wall. I shelled out the extra $220 for the longer system cable....but need to get about a 5 ft extension cord to connect to the power supply cord (thru the walls) to the Plasma (pioneer doesnt have one). I own 2 Harman Kardon Signature amps...a 2.1 & a 1.5.

They both have puny ungrounded power cords. The 2.1, which has the most current draw, has the smaller cord (beyond my understanding as to why).

I know for sure I am going to install bigger cords. Should I just replace...

                            Power Cord Question
                            by BWLover
So I got an RLC-1040 and the power cord that came with it was maybe 2 feet :M (on a good day). So I switched it with the power cord on my RB-1080. They were both 14AWG cords but the 1080's was 6 feet (long enough for my RLC-1040). Now the 2 foot cord is to short to be used on my amp. So now the cord...
