What Kind of Extension Cord do I need?

Im putting my pioneer plasma 5050HD on / in the wall, speakers in the wall. I shelled out the extra $220 for the longer system cable....but need to get about a 5 ft extension cord to connect to the power supply cord (thru the walls) to the Plasma (pioneer doesnt have one). Im a newbie, but my instinct says the regular extension cord hanging around my house isnt going to do the job.

Do I read the specs on the current power cord (seems to be a lot of info on the cord) and try to find an extension that will do the job....My local audio store wasnt helpful....

Or maybe thisnt the thing to do? I could move a rec/plug behind the plasma....Is that a better way to handle it?

I'm not an electrician, but I do know that use of extension cords should be reserved for last resort.

If I read you correctly about a power cable through the walls, I'd darn near bet money that is an Electrical Code no-no.

I'd move the outlet if that is one of your options - just my .02.
There are some things which are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know which things these are. :scratchhead:

I would just add another outlet, I dont know what codes are in your area, but here in my area with new construction there needs to be an electrical outlet within six feet of one another. Honestly an extension cord should never be used for something like that.

AN extension cord in the wall is NOT per code. DO NOT DO THIS. Just add an outlet instead - it's not hard to do.

I don’t mean to insult your intelligence, but have you checked to see if the power cord is removable (many high end components are). If so, order a longer high quality power cord from Pioneer or an aftermarket company. Power cords are fairly standard items. You may check with the cables section of this forum for additional help

OH Good idea. I wish I would have thought about that. I think that he is right about that. It should be the standard 3 prong plug. You can get replacment power cords from Radio Shack and they are not that much money. Great Idea! :T

                Electrical question

Forgive me, I am not too knowlegable about electrical stuff. I want to upgrade the electrical outlets in my duplex 20 amp line for my amplifier. The line has two typical 20 amp outlets wired together (4 plugs). I would like to replace one of the outlets with a better hospital grade outlet. Here is my...

Impact of Electrical Source on B&W / Classe Peformance?
                by moonlightdrive21
Hey fellas. I have the 802D's with a 200w Classe amp.

I have a dedicated outlet that goes from the wall outlet straight to the electrical box in my garage. Just my power amp is plugged into this wall outlet.

However, sometimes when I listen to music, I get fuller sound...

                extension cords
                by keytrnr
I just purchased the rotel rmb-1095. In doing so, I need to move some equipment to make more room. The cord on the rotel pre-amp isn't long enough, and the book says not to use extension cords. Not sure why, but wouldn't it be ok if I use a heavy gauge cord? The rotel's is 16 gauge, and I have a...

                Electrical connection install questions
                by blackhook
I'm having a Sony VPL-VW50 (Pearl) installed next week, and my electrician is coming to do some prep work.

As I'm anticipating putting in a power conditioner in my rack under the screen (where the projector will actually plug in), I'm having him wire come romex/conduit from the projector,...

                Add on switched AC outlet?
                by chrispy35
Like any normal person, I'd like to use the switched outlet of my receiver to turn on/off my power amp (RMB-1066). My budget doesn't allow for something like an RLC-900 right now but I'd like something that performs the same basic function, minus the filtering and timing. I'd like to avoid a wall-wart...
