    RSP 1066+RMB1075 or RSX 1057

    Hi all,

New to this thread and Im looking for some advice. I am looking at purchasing a new receiver to go with my B&W p6's (ya they're older but I love 'em) and my B&W DM 303's as surrounds. Im about 70% music and 30% movies.

So here's the prob: I've got about $600-$700 to spend and I came across a great deal on the RSP 1066 and a rmb 1075 for about $700. I know the rmb is a bit much for the 303's but my thought was "who cares! its going to sound better than what I've got!".

The other alternative was going with the RSX-1057.

Any thoughts? Could really use some "experience" with this one!

    Thanks in advance!

    Rotel RMB 1075
    Rotel RDV-1060

if you can get both RSP1066 and RMB1075 for $700 you should go for them. this will also give you more flexibility than the RSX1057 down the road if you want to upgrade.

I completely agree. For that level of money, go with the separates. I used to have P5's. They will love the 1066/1075 combo.

      Hope this helps.

        Welcome to the forum.

I agree with the two posts above, get the seperates. You could upgrade the preamp at any time and use that amp for a long time.

          Thanks for the info!!!

Going separates for flexibility is of course a great selling point. Im just wondering if Im going to hear the sonic differences on my system.

Oh by the way, my current AMP is a Denon 1905 (I know, I know... its sad), but has been OK so far.

            97disco,

You should definitely hear an accross the board sonic improvement from just the 1066 versus your Denon (dynamics, soundstage, detail, bass, etc.). Then throw in the much better amplification with the 1075 and you will be quite happy. It should be a significant leap from where you are today.

Your proposed upgrade is similar to mine when I went to separates. I had P5's driven by a Sony ES receiver. I got a RSP985 (older than 1066) and a 1095 amp. That was a quantum leap for me.

            Hope this helps.

You know its good to get some real feedback with user experience!

Chances are I may not be able to get the RMB 1075.... but we'll see.

What's your thoughts on the RMB-985? Older unit I just cant see much feedback on this particular one (with the flat face, no "fins"). Local guy asking $300 but what's it worth?

                97disco,

The best bang for your buck would be to get an outboard amp (i.e. the 1075 amp), assuming the Denon has pre outs. These are available in the $600 to $700 range on Audiogon. This would still give you flexibility later to replace the Denon with a dedicated pre-amp. The power supplies in receivers typically can't really deliver the current needed to get very good performance. The Rotel's power supply is WAY better than the Denon's.
Rotel's power ratings are also conservative.

The 985 is a much older model (1990's). I upgraded to the 1068. It was a big jump in performance. Better 2 channel, bass management, digital decoding (more cohesive), and Dolby Prologic II (much better rear channel performance). I believe the 1066 and the 1066 are much closer in performance. $300 sounds about right for the 985. I would hold out for the 1066 or 1068.

                Hope this helps.

I think the OP is refering to the RB 985 amp.

You are right, I did mis-read that. The 985 map would be a very nice addition to 97disco's setup. That amp would be much better than the Denon's amps. At $300, that is a very nice price. Well built amps last a long time and perform well for years.

                      hum... so many options!
The Denon does have the pre-outs to use the outboard AMP and that was my original plan until I came across the RSP 1066 for a great price.

I think Im going to go with the RSP 1066 and the RMB 1075. Ill be picking them both up today (600 for both aint too bad!)

                          97disco,

RUN, do not walk for a RSP-1066 and a RMB-1085 for $600. That is great value for the money. Let us know how it sounds.

What sub are you running? The bass should sound tighter and deeper from the 1066.

Well I just got the RSP 1066 for $300. Not a bad deal with box, remote manual and 2 AQ dimondback interconntects and 2 AQ silversomethings.

Wont know untill I pick up the 1075 possibly in the next day or so!

Sorry... the sub is going to be the next upgrade!

Currently the sub is an odd Onkyo SKW-320 150W dual 8" drive.
